Default Buying yorkies online

I was just reading the new scam thread, and a question came to my mind. First off all, if someone is a reputable breeder, they usually request to meet the family of where the pup is going too, right? Second off all, when someone is buying a puppy, don't they want to meet the puppy first to see how his/her personality is? Third of all, There are one too many scams! So I'm just wondering why people continue to buy pups online. I can understand if there are no breeders in a driveable distance, or no decent breeders, but other than that, why do people continue to buy online? If you bought your puppy online, why did you go that route? I'm just wondering pretty much.

Also, any breeders who sell there pups online, what makes you decide to sell online vs. meeting the future owner in person?

I hope no one takes this the wrong way, I'm just curious because of all the scams and everything out there, why people do this way.

I don't think I would buy a puppy on line (as in having one shipped to me) unless it came from a very well know or famous breeder. I would probably buy locally, and I'd certainly like to of met the puppy before I purchased.

I think people buy online for the same reasons they would buy from a pet store - Cheaper and less personal involvement (ie the breeder wanting to check if you are the "right" sort of person).

Also bear in mind if you pay by credit card your credit card company will most likely help you recover your money.

I'm not saying I agree with this form of "purchasing" but I can understand why folks do it.

I bought my puppy through an internet connection because it was virtually impossible to buy a female puppy in Massachusetts. I worked on it diligently for 6 months only to get the maybe you can see the puppies when they arrive. Never a commitment from anyone. It was very difficult to get face time with some of the local breeders as they were constantly giving excuses.
I was very discouraged!

FINALLY, a reputable breeder in Massachusetts hooked me up with a wonderful show breeder in Missouri. I didn't get the luxury of being able to see the dog prior to receiving it, but I knew the breeder had beautiful dogs. Every breeder I spoke to in Massachusetts knew this out of state breeder and the quality of her dogs. I also spoke with others who purchased dogs from this breeder. I wish I could have seen the mother, the entire litter, but that really wasn't possible unless of course I flew to Missouri. The breeder's relative brought the dog to me directly via plane. It worked out perfectly. I think if you do your homework, research the breeder, enter into a good contract, it can work!

The puppy I received has a wonderful personality and is just adorable. We are so happy we took the chance! I'll only get my dogs from this breeder again! It would be great to have purchased a dog locally but in Massachusetts it's very difficult to get the breeders to part with their girls!

That sucks that the local breeders discouraged you. In sometimes I understand why people go out of state, and I know if I didn't have breeders in this area I would too, because I refuse to buy from a petstore.

IMO I dont think there is a wrong or right way, I got James online b/c around here if you can find a yorkie there at least 2000(healthy or not) I spoke with the breeder several times on the phone and over email and was able to answer every question I had and she wanted to know all about me and where he would be living etc... For me it was a pleasure getting James from her and would def do it again.

We have sold puppies online - well sort of! This is how some people find us (others are all word of mouth). We never ship though so we do meet the people of course, talk and they usually visit thier puppy a lot before it goes home with them. We will never ship a puppy although we would meet someone at the airport if they were a good fit.

I am going to try to sell mine online and do all the things you mentioned above to see that my puppies get good homes. i live in a rural area of Kentucky where the people that sell yorkies around here usually do not know what they even have. They let them go at six weeks for like five or six hundred dollars. They have usually never heard of Judabob, Burgandy or some of the other great bloodlines. I don't intend to sell my puppies tosomeone just looking for a cheap little dog that won't give it the respect it deserves. So wish me luck. i checked out the puppy escrow site the other day and that looks like it offers great protection for both the online buyer and seller.

I bought mine from a pet shop. I walked in and fell head over heals in love. I had looked and made phone calls to people here in Maine, NH and Ma and no one either had any or they just didn't have the personality I wanted. i called one lady that said she had a 12 wk old pup that she had wormed but it still was sick and had worms and she would give it to me for a discount. I lost that number. lol But when I found Babybear in the petshop he looked at me with that little face and those little brown eyes and said I am yours. And he wasn't cheap either. I paid over a thousand dollars for him. So it wasn't the money thing at all. I really didnt' want to fly one on a plane either because they are way to small and I had already bought a Olde English Bulldogge online and had him flown in 2 years prior and when I got him he was so scared I just couldn't put another baby through that.
I know pet shops are bad, but at the time I was out of options.

There are a lot of good reasons for buying on line. But I would wnat to know the reputation of the breeder first, and make sure yhou are buyhing from a breeder rather than a broker.

I had Chachi shipped from CA to IA because I wanted a parti carrier, and I will also be getting a parti colred female as soon as my name gets to the top of the list.

If the breeder has a good reputation, you can be sure that

1 they are breeding quality dogs with good dispositions
2 Their dogs are in the home and well socialized
3 they do not breed dogs with genetic health issues
4 they stand behind their dogs
5 they will replace them if you find that the dogs personality is not compatible with your life style.

Never buy from a breeder that you know nothing about, whether they are local or over the internet.

I purchased my Bichon on-line (5 years ago).

I couldn't find a Bichon for sale in my area - and got on line and checked out as many places as I could.

My pup was flown from CA to WA -- and he has been a wonderful pet...couldn't have gotten a nicer little dog.

I would not buy online. I had to see what I was getting so picked her up. Had to drive a long ways for what I wanted but she was worth it.

I was looking online, originally. But a lot of ads I came across sounded like scam, I knew I wouldn't be able to afford another pup for a while if I got scammed. I HAD to see the pup and where they were brought up first. I didn't really see the pup on the plane alone, either... I was trying to coordinate my honeymoon with a trip to pick up the pup in Florida, but hubby didn't get time off... So we looked locally, finally we found a breeder around 5 hour drive from NY and decided to go visit his family and pick up the pup 'on the way'... Best money ever spent
