| Matted Help! Hi everyone I am new Here...and I just had a quick question to ask...My Yorkie (Izzy) is 16 months old now and I have been growing her coat out since I got her....now she does get groomed every 3 weeks weeks by a groomer....but I am having trouble with her matting....and when I try and comb them out it really hurts her....I have tried the spray conditioner but it just doesn't seem to work....and I certently do not want to cut her short.... Does anyone have any ideas on how I can keep her from matting??? When I finally figure out how to post Pictures I will....Thanks |

A good solution is to get some EMU OIL at a health food store, it's a little expensive, I paid like 12.00 for my 2oz bottle, but it goes a long way. what you want to do is mix : 3oz warm water, 1TBS emu oil, 2 drops of 100% lavender oil (for smell) and 2 drops 100% eucalyptus oil (helps keep fleas off) put this in a spray bottle and shake very well before you use it. Bathe your Yorkie with a good shampoo and conditioner, you may also want to use a leave in conditioner, I use Pantene leave in foam, it works really well. Towel dry her like normal, then spray that emu oil mixture on her coat, make sure you get all the places where she is matted really well! Then comb her out like you normally would. But I will almost garantee you, she wont cry when you comb her out. and I use a small fine tooth comb, and I gently tease the matts outs. And I comb her in sections, putting her hair in between my two fingers. I hope this helps you out. here is the thread on the emu oil. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=51422 |

| Try "Tangle out" by Vellus. Spray on dry coat directly on mats prior to bath and the knots just slide right out. Bathe out immediately after de-matting. |

| I use Cowboy Magic and it works wonders for me. Mimi has more of the cotton coat and before I got her groomed she matted easily. I use CM after her bath and she would be fine for the rest of the week. Sometimes I would have to apply a small amount during the week for brushing. I also found that she didn't matt as easily with the CM on her. I also use a flea comb to comb her....brushes don't get deep enough for me. My boy doesn't get matted. |

| Another thing you can do to keep her from matting is to brush her hair through when you have the conditioner on during a bath. Thie really helps and my groomer does this too
