| well last night............ Emerald had a baby girl, at 1'30 this am, and by 8 this morning the baby girl was dead and at a closer look the baby had puncture wounds in her neck area........why do mom's kill their babies???? this has really devestated me, i did everything right, fed all the right foods, made sure mom was healthy, dad is a proven breeder, vet has been so impressed with me, and the dogs................So we have decided we want to spay her, but my friend tells me to wait and think about it, and give her a years rest and try again, but I do not want to put her through this again, and I don't think I can to. knw I am opening my self up to some pretty outspoken comments, please take it easy I am grieving, and so is Emmy.

| I am so very sorry for your loss. I am sure you did everything right and could not have prevented what happened. Maybe the Mom thought it wasnt thriving and thats why she killed it. You just dont really know. I am not a breeder but if I was and that hapened i would spay the mom.

| I know mother cats will abandon baby kittens if there is something wrong with them, but I don't know anything about dogs. I am so sorry you lost your little girl. You did nothing wrong. Sometimes Mother Nature takes care of the things we don't understand. Whatever decision you make, it will be the right one. Good luck.

| Was this her first litter? Maybe she just didn't know what to do with it. You have to make the decision that is right for you, I don't know why anyone would criticize you for that. I'm so sorry that you are hurting right now. |

| I am so sorry for your loss. I know it's painful. I am sure you were an excellent mom and you did everything right. You'll probably never know exactly what and why it happened. I've heard too, that when the mom senses that something isn't right, she'll dispose of the baby. Or maybe she was trying to move it and accidentally punctured it. I am so sad for you, tho. I am sending ((((((((((((hugs))))))))))))))) from me and Spencer. As far as whether or not to breed her again, it's a decision that you'll have to make. My opinion is, I would try to breed her again and see what happens. If this was her first litter, she may have just not known what to do....sometimes they don't have that maternal instinct. I have a maltese and she had a little a few years back. If I would not have been there, she would have killed them all. She had no idea what was going on. I had to basically "deliver" the puppies and show her what to do. After a few days, she was a great mother. But again, this is just my opinion. Good Luck in what ever you decide. We're all behind you!

| Maybe there was something not right with this puppy that you can't tell but her mom could. I'm so sorry this happened. I don't think anyone will criticize you. Don't blame yourself. You did nothing wrong. You had to leave them alone together sometime and you figured things were ok. Don't make any hasty decisions. How is she acting now? |
