| Dressing Yorkie in the Winter This will be our first winter with our Yorkie. Do they need a sweater or coat when they go outside or are they like our cockapoos who have never needed any winter clothes? What about their paws? Thank you! |

| fido fleece is great yorkies are the only single coated breed. they need a coat in cold weather. after trying many my favorite is fido fleece. worth every penny. easy on and off with velcro. they wash well. and keep their underbelly warm and dry. http://fidofleece.com/category.cfm?C...TOKEN=59003983 our second fav is from drfosters a value at under $8. http://www.drsfostersmith.com/Produc...01+2033+113065 Last edited by romeos mommy; 09-13-2006 at 05:25 PM. |

| I have never put coats on my yorkies, but they never stayed out very long in the cold, they run out do thier business and run right back in. If I had to walk them I would definitely put a coat on them. |

| Half the fun of having a yorkie is putting a coat on them in the winter! BTW, I love the fido fleece coats too. They are incredibly durable, fit nicely, wash well, and are easy to put on.

| All of mine wear sweaters as they get cold easily especially since small dogs loose their body heat extremely fast. And I love dressing mine up in the winter!!! I get mine from www.barkindogclothes.com. You get to pick the fabric and they have different desings as well. Shipping is free in the US and the sweaters are at such a great price and Rena does such a great job making them and you get them really fast. I just ordered a really cute hoodie for my Destiny and it cost me only $9.

| Although Sissy goes outside just to do her business, she gets very cold very easily. I do use a coat for her and since she goes with me in the car frequently, she always has some kind of harness on to be strapped into her car seat. She has a lovely quilted harness from Tiger's Mom and will soon also have a quilted denim one with faux fur from her, too. I can't speak for all pups, but Sissy does not like any kind of sleeve at all on her front or back legs. As long as it is a harness style, she is fine and loves to have these on. If you are going to walk your pup regularly in the winter, I would look into some kind of little bootie (if they will keep them on). Lots of folks use these, too. Sissy wouldn't even let me get them on her feet!

| I dress mine in the winter but make sure I brush the hair everyday underneath so it's not matted all up.

| I just bought mine coats from Old Navy. They look like shearling...very cute! They are on sale now for $10 each but I got both for $15 because I had a $5 gift card. They had other cute ones...I'm going to go back and get them the jean one..it has nice colorful fleece material in the inside. |

| Loki goes outside to do his thing even in the winter. If there's no snow and he's just going out to pee we don't put anything on him. If it's cold in the house - like it has been lately since it's like 60 outside and we don't have the heat on - then i will put a t-shirt or sweatshirt on him. If it snows or rains I put a coat on him when he goes outside so he doesn't get his fur all full of ice. I'll also put a coat on him when we go in the car if I don't warm it up first and I'll walk him in a sweatshirt if it gets below 65 - basically if I need a sweatshirt or coat then I put one on him. Also, we keep him clipped VERY short even in the winter - we find it's easier to keep him clean and dry that way. Last year I got him a coat from Old Navy and one from Target. Both had snaps and I need to find one with velcro. I like both of them though and they were about $12 each. Sweatshirts we get from PetEdge because they are cheap (like $4) and he has a couple t-shirts from RuffRuffandMeow.com because they are warm ribbed t-shirts. Thats about it - we don't get fancy. Oh and he does have one gap hoodie, but that's because i live in gap hoodies and thought it would be cute.

| Thank you for all of your great replies. We will be ordering her clothes from the places that you suggested. It's going to be a little tricky for us because we have a dog door. She can go in and out as she pleases. We might have to limit that so that we can make sure that she is going out with something on so that she will be safe from the cold! |
