| Wires for stitches? Roxy is home and doing fine. Spayed, microchipped and 3 teeth removed. Her incision is about 2 inches long and has stitches. She also has two wire stitches holding the incision together. The wires stick out almost a half inch. Has anyone else had these? They look so uncomfortable but Roxy hasn't shown any sign of them poking her when she is curled up. I got her onesies but the material will pull on the wire so we just put on a premie undershirt. She will end up piercing her tongue if she licks them. Better have a earring stud handy in case she does

| Wow, she has 3 scars!. Poor thing. They look like they will heal well. It's too bad they couldn't take care of everything with just one opening. I hope she is feeling good. I will try to get a pic of Roxy's incision. My cord is still packed - somewhere - and my new fax machine doesn't have the memory card slots. So Krysten has to take pics on her camera and email them to me. She's 17 and lives in her room. I usually only see her at feeding times and when she needs something. I am still trying to get her to email the pics of Roxy's Secret Buddy gifts so I can post them. I know - I am asking alot. LOL.

| Most likely there what they call staples, but I never have heard of them being used on a spay. |

YT 5000 Club Member | It's like weird how active Chloe is, like she didn't have any surgery! I got worried yesterday and called the vet b/c around the spay it has this red/purple place around it! They said that was bruising! That just sounded bad, but they said it is b/c she is soo young and her uterus was small and tight! LOL How is your baby acting, does she have pain med. and antibiotics?

| You wouldn't know Roxy had even been to the vets. No bruising that I can see. No pain meds, but she does have 6 days of antibiotics. She was shaking when we picked her up and very quiet, but as soon as we put her down in the house, she started jumping and dancing and chasing the cats. She ate, went outside and peed. She is now napping. She hasn't made any noises and she is usually very vocal. It isn't staple that she has. I've seen them. These look just like Chloe's black stitches but it is like the wire you use in flower making. It's thin enough to tie, but strong enough to poke you. They look like they are really gonna hurt coming out.

| I've never seen those, either. Mine used those dissolvable stitches that look like plastic. Glad she's doing so well.

| OK, just got a pic that's in my email. All I have to do is figure out how to get it here. There are no other stitches, only the 2 tied wires.

| Oh yes, I've mentioned the wire stitches on here before and no one knew what I was talking about. The internal stitches are disolvable stitches but the outside are wire. Tatum's were a little different - she had more than two wire stitches but can't remember how many. My vet explained that with little dogs, he likes to do that because it keeps them from messing with the incision. The good thing is you don't even need to put a onesie or anything on her because the wire stitches will discourage her from licking the incision. I think it's a great idea. It's really not as bad as it sounds for those of you who've never seen it. Tatum was curious about her incision but never messed with it and I think that's due to the wire stitches. The only person it really bothered was me because I'd forget and pick her up and get scratched. I guess in a way it was a good thing for me too because that would remind me not to touch her there! And the scar afterwards is no different with pups that have the wire stitches - haven't really inspected the site lately but from what I can remember, you can't even see Tatum's hardly anymore (it's been almost 2 years).

| OK, I don't have a clue what I am doing here, but if a pic appears, then whatever I did was right

| Holy c..p! I did it. Wonder what I did? It's kinda fuzzy - it was taken with a pic phone. Thanks TatumsMom. Then I am not crazy. I didn't realize there were internal stitches, but that makes sense. That also explains why they said no cones on little dogs. She has been licking around the incision, I hope she isn't trying to pull out the wires. This is the first time I've seen wire used. She napped just fine. I hope she will sleep OK. She sleeps on my bed with me. It doesn't seem to hurt - at least she isn't acting like there is any pain.I sure hope not.

| Tatum's looked different from that. Hers was like a whole line of stitches - like any other external stitches would look - but they were a real fine wire.

| You know, I'm not an expert on this incision thing since this is my first female but I know Tatum's incision looked scary to me. I guess mostly it was the swelling that made it look so bad. Maybe someone with a lot more experience can tell you if Roxy's looks normal. Seems to me like it's kinda bulging but like I said, I don't know much about this and it's been 2 years since Tatum's spay.
