Sad Help, depressed with bully

Hi everyone. I need some help. I am depressed.

I have had Zoey for almost 2 weeks. Sadie (14 monts) is starting to get used to Zoey (6 months). But Zoey is a real bully. She pulls at Sadie's hair and bites her back legs and growls ferociously. Sadie gives it back to her at times, but I am so tired and depressed right now because of the bully in Zoey.

How can I stop her from being such a bully? My mom brought her dog over (male, part Shiztu and terrier) and she was playing nicely with him. But with Sadie, she gets real bully-ish.

Right now I am so frustrated, I am really sorry I got the second yorkie. Maddie (my 7-1/2 yo yellow lab) just tries to stay out of the way.

I had surgery almost 6 weeks ago and will be going back to work next week and I am so tired, I wonder if I was wrong in getting the second yorkie.

You have all been so helpful in the past 2 weeks, but today I am really getting down in the dumps. I feel bad for Sadie because she tries to stay away from Zoey and can't sleep in all the places that she used to.

PLEASE HELP!!!!

I know it is stressful when you bring a new puppy in to the mix ,but try and ahng in there. Maya adjusted to Cali jumping all over her and know she really seems to like her and they lay next to each other. I never thought that would happen. Give it a little more time. Good luck.

Aww the pupy stages , all mine have been exactly like zoey, and although you are tired and fed up with it, things will get better trust me She is just a puppy playing and does not understand. Maybe with a little discipline you can try and teach her. Do you have an x-pen you could put zoey in, to give Sadie a break now and then?

Thanks Patti! It is so hard at times. Sometimes they are so cute playing together and then other times, I feel so bad for Sadie. I am trying to give Sadie extra attention. She is doing better because she is eating again and acting more normal. But Zoey coming after her all the time is hard on me (probably more so than on her).

I do remember when we brought Sadie home, she didn't seem to leave Maddie alone.

How long did it take for things to settle down in your house?

Thanks!
Karen

Unless one is actually hurting the other one, I would let them work it between themselves.

If you were not just recoviering from surgery, I would suggest taking them on some good walks together to tire the little one out.

Kizzy and maggie fight over everything, yet they dont really hurt each other but i've heard both of them make the other one yelp a few times, if they keep going back for more I figure their not hurt bad. Once in a while Kizzy gets too rough for me with maggie but its because she wants to take every thing maggie has away from her even if they both have one just a like. and sometimes Maggies starts it. When I aggravated with kizzy taking everything from her or feel like shes getting to rough. All I have to do is say. "Kizzy, leave her alone or I will get my fly swatter and she will walk her but totally away from maggie and leave her a lone most times for a long time. I have used it on kizzy a few times but i just swish it back on forth on her rear with it barely tipping her on the butt. But the main thing is , she is scared of it.
Goodluck to you with yours and sometimes You do just have to make them stop one way or another. just separate them in their cages for a while when you get un nerved with them. Sometimes we all just need a break from them same as we use to from our kids when they were babies. I hope you do ok from your surgery and I hope you dont let two dogs get to you too much, as you have to remember, they really are dogs and no dog is worth driving yourself crazy over them.

I don't have any answers about the bullying, but I have had surgery a few times and I know how hard that is. Part of your depression is probably due to the fact that you're still recovering. Even though you're almost ready to go back to work, your body is still healing and it takes time. When you're not feeling your best, things get to you alot more. The only thing I can suggest is maybe separating them when one bullies the other, maybe give a timeout or something, and see if that helps.

Good luck to you, I hope everything goes well for you when you go back to work.

You guys are all the best. I knew talking to you guys would help. I figured it was just Zoey being a puppy, but sometimes it really gets to me.

I'm sure my surgery hasn't helped at all.

I have taken them for a walk this week. It was good. But there has to be 2 of us to walk because I can't handle the 2 little ones and my lab. I don't want to leave Maddie here when I take the little ones out because she feels bad. The other day I walked them in shifts. I took Zoey by herself. Then I took Maddie and Sadie. Then I came back and took Sadie and Zoey (the guy came and put fertilizer down, so I had to walk them and not let them on the lawn).

I don't have an x-pen, but I have little gates that my husband made and can lock her in part of the kitchen, or I can put them in their cages. Time out!

I will try not to get too depressed over this. I will also try your suggestions.

Some are just wilder than others as puppies. Is there anyone who can help you out and walk them like twice a day to help wear off some of that puppy energy? Don't let it get you down. Your older yorkie will be able to handle it. It will probably be better when those sharp baby teeth are completely gone.

I think the above is one of the most sensible remarks ever made on YT.

My little Yorkie drives my Bichon crazy a good part of the time - and I feel sorry for the Bichon. But he seems to enjoy it "at least part of the time" and plays back -- I'm just thankful the Yorkie isn't doing it constantly. Enough is enough!

Good luck -- don't let it get you down too much. I used to let my Bichon take a nap on my bed and close the door so he could really get some rest....and also, I let him outside often without the "little monster" just so he can get away from him for a while.

I think that Sadie is still allowing Zoey her "puppy license". Dogs will allow puppies to get away with alot that they would never tolerate from an older dog. I expect that Sadie will eventually put Zoey in her place (it might not be pretty, but it needs to happen).

In the meantime, in your presence, I'd let them work it out for themselves (like Jeanie said). If you are unsure of either dog's safety, separate them when you can't supervise them. And, as Linda said, there is nothing wrong with putting them away separately when you've had enough.

Good luck! I hope you'll be feeling better soon!

Again, I thank you guys from the bottom of my heart. Even though I hate to go back to work, maybe it will be a good thing to get away from these little ladies for a while.

Now my choice of what to do with them. We used to lock Sadie up in part of the kitchen with a litter box, food, water, toys, and her crate. But now that we have Zoey, I figure that is where she will go (don't want to put the 2 of them in there together). So I am hoping that Sadie will be a good girl and stay in the family room and the other part of the kitchen with Maddie.

One of you mentioned the sharp puppy teeth. She has 2 rows of teeth. Sadie did for a little bit too, but they all came out on their own. I have a feeling we are going to have to have Zoey's pulled. But I figure they will do that when we get her spayed.

SJK1113, I see you are from Ohio, what part do you live? We live west of Cleveland and my son is going to school in Dayton.

Thanks all, I am feeling a little better today. You have all helped me tremendously. I have some pics that I need to post.

Default devoted to Lucy!

I look forward to seeing your pictures and hope you're feeling better really soon. I agree with you that going back to work and getting away from the ladies will do you good.

Good luck!
