| Post-neuter care Howie is getting neutered in a few weeks and I'm sooooo nervous about it!!! Does anyone have any tips to help me make my little guy comfy and happy after his surgery? I really appreciate it!

| I just had Dylan neutered today so I may have some suggestions by next week. I know with my yorkie, Kramer, he was almost back to normal by the next day and he was 5 yrs. old when I had it done. I'll be asking my vet when I pick up Dylan (yah, only 1 more hour until pick up) what I need to do to make him comfortable. |

| When I had Bo neutered he was sleepy that night but was back to normal the next day. the only thing my vet said was try not to let him jump and don't give him a bath. We tried to keep him calm but he has too much energy for that and he healed really well. |

| Use a newborn baby onesie to protect his incision of the uncomfortable cone collar. |

| My vet just said no roughhousing with the other Yorkie and no bath for 3 days. He said to watch the incision site for redness and to come back immediately if there was reddness or swelling. Rexy never acted like anything was wrong at all - he had to stay overnight, so he was wide awake and soooooo glad to see me at 8:00 the next morning. He never tried to bother the stiches at all, although I understand that some do. It was just so easy - I never expected it to be!

| It was easy for Tiger too! He was pretty sleepy that night, but by the next day he had ALL his energy back!

| Louie is going to be neutered tommorrow morning. I have this feeling he wont leave his stitches alone. So I'll have to be constantly watching him. I'm scared for some odd reason, I guess scared he wont wake up. But I know everything will be ok. They do these surgeries everyday.

| Pre and Post-Op Pain Management Please be sure to get all the necessary blood work done before surgery. Liver enzymes will be tested to rule out liver shunt, among other tests. Progressive vets use pre-op pain meds, surgical pain meds, and post-op meds. It costs more, but your baby's comfort is well worth it. You should be sent home with 2-3 days worth of meds. Ask the vet to also give an antibiotic shot after surgery, and to trim nails while under anesthesia. I used the "soft" E-collar I found on the net, and put Vitamin E on the wound, straight from the capsule. I had both my boys done on the same day. They came home tired, had a little trouble pushing out their first poop. I had prepared their kibbles with warm water to make it soft for them. They ate ravenously. They slept for about 12 hours after that. Personally, I think the onesie or infant sweatpants (make cuts for potty use) is a much better idea. No jumping or rough play. I took off from work for a week and watched them constantly. What did I learn??? It was harder on me than one them!!! Your baby will be back to normal before you know it. Just follow the vet's directions and keep your "third eye" open. Good Luck and God Bless!
