| I think yorkies are incredibly smart, intuitive dogs. My dog seems to be very good at observing my behavior and he can predict my next moves. So, yes, I think it's very possible that your furbaby knows you should be home with him and cries b/c he doesn't want you to leave or wants to go with you.

| None of mine cry or try to sneak out the door when I am headed for work but if I try to go anywhere without them in the evening or on the weekend they all start whining. I don't know how they know I am not going to work. The Jack Russell gets naughty and will chew something up if I leave them behind for anything other than work. I figure I'm so tied down now that I might as well get me another Yorkie. |

| I don't think it's a matter of our dogs being "oooooooooh so smart." My dog does the same thing that yours does. Dogs get very used to schedules - and our dogs are used to our routines. They know when we go to work (and have learned to live with and accept this schedule -- even if it varis somewhat). And they know when we are supposed to be home, but are leaving for other reasons. Neither of my dogs ever makes any fuss when I go to work (after all they watch me go through my regimen getting ready for work a thousand times - and it happens pretty much the same time every day that I work). But - if I walk out the back or front door (and not into the garage to leave for work) --- they have a fit and want to go with me. As well, on the weekends, etc., if I decide to go to the store or run an errand - they know the difference - and, again, they want to go. **** If I put makeup and lipstick stick on -- my dogs know I'm getting ready to go somewhere. Remember their little world really isn't very complicated. They always seem to know what's going on. I can't say, "I think I see ........." If I ever say these four words - both my dogs go crazy and run to the windows barking --- looking frantically outside for whatever "I think I see...." If I whisper "I think Sami (my granddaughter) is here." They run to the front door waiting for her to come in. When our pets live with us for a while and get used to our routines and the things that happen in our homes - they quickly learn what's happening or going to happen most of the time. Not just dogs.... my friend's parrot starts yelling "The kids are here! The kids are here!" everytime a car parks in front of her house. And, my friend doesn't even hear the car - but the parrot does. Children and pets always amaze us. I think it's because they are invariably smarter than we give them credit for. So - we are often surprised! ****** And please don't think Yorkies are especially smart.... I have been around dog after dog and breed after breed (and have friends with different dogs) that constantly amaze me. But then, we always think our children are the smartest - don't we? I have had three dogs - a Yorkie, a Bichon, and a mixed breed (which I recently had to put to sleep). My little mixed breed put my other two to shame when it came to being smart.... Of course, she was part poodle - and they say they are the smartest dogs.....maybe that's where she got her brain power. All dogs (and children) are amazing - no doubt about that! Carol Jean |
