| Could it be again???????????? Hi guys it's been a while since I posted something and right now I really need ur help. Daisy has had her first heat already at 8 months which was about 3 months ago. Today my minipin is sniffing her and trying to hump her. He wont leave her alone. Could it be that she's in heat again? Is this normal, or is my mini pin just a horn dog? He usually ignores her and the only time he ever acted this way was a couple of months ago when she had her first heat. Any help would really be appreciated. Thanks!

| Hi Yumi! I sure don't have much advice or expertise in this area, but I'm thinking it would be way too soon for her to be in heat again? Have you looked to see if she's swollen in that area? Tell that little Rambo to be a gentleman! That little stinker!

A male will exhibit this behaviour if there is an infection, either pyometria which is an infection of the uterus, or a bladder infection. The female will smell different so the male thinks she is in heat even if she isn't. This can be serious especially if it is a pyo, she can go down very quickly if it is.

A closed pyometria is dangerous as the infection is not draining and you don't see a discharge as it is contained in the uterus. The infection can become rampant very quickly. In both cases, immediate Vet care is a necessity. I have had a pyometria happen twice, two different bitches in my 10 years in yorkies. Both were open pyometrias but I didn't mess with either, they were in the Vets, put on antibiotics and spayed. Although not quite a year of age is young for a pyo it isn't unheard of.

| Hi it is possible he is just horny but I would have her checked anyway. Some signs you can watch for are temperature, if she has a fever, also if she is drinking an unusually large amount of water and off food. Those can be symptoms of an infection. With my one girl that had an open pyo she had no symptoms like that but my boys were after her. This was almost three months after being in heat and I checked to see if she had come into heat again so soon. I found a smelly discharge instead, phoned the Vet right away, thank goodness it was daytime and they were open. I took her in and he put her on Clavamox antibiotic first for a couple of days as it was draining. It was less risky for her to be onthem for a few days first before he actually did the spay. On a closed pyo, they have to take the risk and get in there right away. Anyway, it likely wouldn't be a bad idea to have her checked out tomorrow given she was in season a few months ago. |

| I have a female Jack Russell Terrier that came in about every three to four months. Vet said some dogs just do that but we had her spayed because twice a year is bad enough but everytime we turned around she was in again had to put a stop to that fast. So it maybe possible but then again just to be sure something else is not wrong take her in to see that vet. Oh by the way she hasn't been around any other females that are coming in has she?
