Some upcoming local events might leave that impression. The Pittsburgh Pirates on Aug. 29 and Sept. 26 hosts its first Pup-Nights at PNC Park, which will include a Pup-Rally and a collection of pup-friendly pregame activities on Federal Street. And Sandcastle Water Park is hosting The Ultimate Canine Pool Party on Sept. 9, in which 300 dogs will be admitted. The larger dogs will have a chance to swim in the wave pool (sans waves) and those under 35 pounds will get their own smaller kiddie pool. Other festivities include a canine bathing suit contest. Actually, the events are fund-raisers that benefit Animal Friends. Up to 200 dogs (and their owners, of course) will be able to attend each Pup-Night at PNC Park. For Aug. 29 there are a limited number of tickets available; the Sept. 26 event is wide open. Cost is $20 per person (one dog per person allowed). On behalf of Del Monte's Pup-Peroni dog snacks, the Pirates will donate $5 from each ticket to Animal Friends to be used to help create local off-leash parks and other pup friendly activities. For ticket information call 412-325-4797. Admission to the Sandcastle event is $15. Call Animal Friends at 412-847-7055 to register and for more details. 2006 Pittsburgh Pet Expo at the David L.
