| For those whose yards aren't fenced in... What do you use to keep your yorkies from getting out of the yard? We have a big yard and wooded lot, but it's not completely fenced in. We thought about fencing in a section for little Jake, but I was thinking about something that could be moved to different parts of the yard that would keep him contained and safe, yet give him lots of room to run and play. I want to leash train him when he's a bit bigger, but I'd like to be able to just let him play freely, but safety is really important to me. Any suggestions? |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I use an xpen that is 24 inches high that goes off the sliding glass door opening and I can just let Maya out in that little area. Cali is pad trained but runs out with her. It owrks out great. It can be moved anywhere and be used in a circle as well.

| I'd really recommend fencing a small section just for him. Once they have a yard all of their own, they love to be out in it. They are safe and you can let him out without worrying about coyotes or other wild animals getting him.

| You could put two x pens togeter. That would give them more space. Also I went to my first conformation class tonight and they made their ring out of those wooden accordian baby gates, all strung together using a wooden brace in between to hold them together. The brace looked like a big letter A , and they atached a gate to each side of it. The braces kept the gates from falling over. |

| The peace of mind is certainly worth it! That's the first thing we did here after we got moved in. The fenced-in area is about 32x32 feet plus the patio area which is about 25 x 20 feet. She loves it and so did Muffin. There are coyotes and other wild animals running here, besides the traffic, and the occasional big dogs that run through!

Donating YT 30K Club Member | There's not a lot of room! You could put 2 together.

| A few years ago I was sitting on a stool outside the fenced area cleaning out a flower bed. I heard a jingling sound, looked in the direction it was coming from and there was a big, black rottweiler coming toward me. I was sooooo scared. I jumped up, put my hands up trying to wave him away. He stood up on his hind legs and I was looking down his throat. He was taller than me! Needless to say, I backed away up against the side of our house and went running, hysterical, into the house. I don't know why he didn't attack me! I'm just glad he didn't. I found out that he was being kept temporarily at a house about a half-mile away. Because of that, he was removed by the owner to another location. I usually had Muffin on a leash with me when I was out for awhile. I don't remember now why I didn't that time, but I am ever so grateful that I didn't take her out with me that day. He may not have bothered her, but then again, she would have barked and had a fit if he came into our yard and he might have attacked her. That's why I love fenced-in yards. It took me a few years to go back out into the open yard at night and even in the daytime I was quite paranoid for awhile. I'm over it now, but it scared me badly!
