| AWWWWW poor thing! When Hobbs was very young, he jumped off the couch and hurt his leg. He kept limping on it, so I called the ER vet (bc it was late at night) and they told me that I needed to confine him until I could take him to my regular vet or bring him to the ER vet for x-ray. They said that if I was not careful, the injury could get a lot worse. We decided to take him to the ER. They took x-rays and found a hairline fracture in his leg. He had to wear a splint for 3 weeks. The odd thing was, whenever we moved his leg, he showed no signs that it was hurting him. The only way we could tell that it was hurt is because he wouldn't walk on it normally. The vet told us that dogs rarely show pain because in the wild showing pain is a sign of weakness and the weakest pack members are always left behind. So, even if she isn't acting like it hurts her, if she is limping, I would take her to the vet. It is better to be safe than sorry. If we had not gone to the vet when we did and Hobbs had injured himself more, it is quite possible that he would have required surgery. |
