| Strange behavior or not? I have two Yorkies that do the strangest thing. They dig or spalsh in there water bowl. At first my old gal Asti does this and I thought maybe, it was a clean out her water before she drinks, now , my Daisy, 4 months, she does this so bad that all the water gets spilled on to the rug and floor. Is this something Yorkies just do or do I have some strange ones?

| Sounds really cute but I bet after a few times of cleaning it up you are tired of it. Maybe you can wait till they do it, then tell them in a stern voice NO! and place them infront of their bowl and if they do it again tell them NO. It may take some time but they will eventually get it. Or you can get them the water bottles and they can drink from that as opposed to a bowl.

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | they might be doing it because in the wild they know not to drink stagnant water. They prefer to drink water that is moving. You can trying getting them a water fountain. my cat has one and he loves it. no more footies in the water

| Bottle My puppy was doing that and I got a guinea pig bottle and hung from the side of her crate. I do have a bowl in the kitchen but keep it on a spongy plastic place mat. Good luck |

| My youngest yorkie, Hootie, digs in her food bowl and water bowl. She also digs in the carpet, couch, bed, EVERYWHERE! It is so funny! I just put her food and water bowl on a towel. Now there's no mess! |

| I have one of those circulating dog fountains and my puppy thinks that one is more fun to dig in and splash around. More room and a lot more water since it has a holding tanking that replenishes the supply as she "digs" it out. So I don't think that is an answer, but they do outgrow it after a year. |

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | lol i guess it depends on teh dog. my yorkie drinks from a water bottle so we don't have any problems with water splashing

| When Dennis was a baby, last year in August it was so hot that he looked like a baby bird in a birdbath. He would stick his feet in the bowl and dunk his head. It was too funny! He no longer does it though. I think he did it because of the heat and not that he outgrew it. |

| Cowboy digs in his water bowl only if it is empty. It makes me laugh because he is like an elephant digging for water . |

| My 3 year old yorkie does this and she will play and play in it until her face is all wet. I can hear her doing it but if I try to peak in the kitchen she will stop. I think it is kind of a cute harmless thing. I've put a washable throw rug under her water and food bowl and just let her have at it. She has a great time and when she is done she just walks into where I am and looks at me kinda funny with her wet head..haha |
