| Hi & welcome to YT. I would ask for: 1. Complete vet history - shots, illnesses, health check, spaying (etc) 2. Check ears for any black specs (mites) 3. Check coat for any thin/balding areas, any black specs (flea dirt) 4. Check clearness of eyes 5. Check teeth - are they white and clean looking 6. Watch the pup walk and run, ask if she was checked for luxating patella 7. What is the health history of the parents Thats all I can think of right now. Hope this helps.

| I would take her to a vet for a check before purchasing her. Get all records.

| In addition to the above: overall cleanliness No rash on belly (if so, likely a pee rash and was cleaned just for the showing) No stinky smell in ears activeness Back should not be humped up or dipped down Healthy gums (not too white....a sign of worms) |

| Vet check & Bile Test? Thanks for your response. I am planning on taking it to the vet tomorrow but was told by the office that all blood work take 24hrs to get back especially to check the liver. Also that if I purchased the dog I would deduct the VET Bill from the purchase price since they only had the dog checked last Feb 2006. The person is moving is seeking to get rid of this dog asap, I told owner that I would want to have the dog checked out by the vet first and that that would determine whether or not I would purchase the dog from her. They are not the original owners, their the 2nd owner and the dog came from a puppy store originally. How much is a standard vet checkup and blood work? Im in NYC area. Is there a way I can get the blood work back the same day? Maria Quote:

| Hi, thanks for all your advice and listing. I had offered to pay for the vet bill but deduct it from the total purchase price. Now that I think of it, if the dog isn't healthy I'll be stuck with the bill and then they keep the dog? that doesn't sound right after I think of it. Maria Quote:

| A bile acid tests gives information on liver function and could be an indicator of a liver shunt (if operable, surgery over $3,000.00). Check all of the above mentioned and the bite (underbite, overbite). A general blood test should show indication of thyroid and others. A urine test will show any bladder infections, etc. |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Cali was very sick 6,000.00 in bills in 8 months. She has a mild liver shunt inoperable. But it took a lot of expensive testing to find it. Complete blood work should give an indication if any of the liver enzymes are elevated. Since it's not a new puppy and living in a person's home Iwould think it wouldn't have kennel cough. Why do they need to get rid of it right away?

| OMG!! That is really sad and costly to her and to you. The owner is moving so no pets allowed at new home. Either way, I saw the dog today and it was much bigger than they lead to believe. So I decided not to get her. I had specifically asked how much it weigh but kept on getting the I don;t know treatment . I told them that I was only interested if the dog was no 5 to 7 lbs no more. Unfortunately she was and it broke my heart. Many thanks for all your help in responding rapidly and your expertise knowledge. Maria Quote:

| I have found that it is quite normal for them to weigh more than they say. I don't know if they are purposely lying or what, but I always take a scale with me. Mine is a simple food scale with a bowl on top that goes to 7 pounds and costs under $10.00 at Walmart or Target. It's great for puppies, but I can also weigh my adults in it. |

| I had the same thought to bring my baking scale, but I didn't. As soon as I saw her she was bigger than I wanted. My heart was broken and the dog was so nervous, like she knew she was being given away. The owner all she wanted was to get paid for the dog and leave me with whatever problems I might or might not encounter. Complained about the traffic, etc that they had gone through to get to my location. I had been speaking with her since I believe late Thursday night. Asked several times if she had weight the dog and stated that everything was packed up and didn't have a scale. They were loads of excuses of not wanting to weight the dog. Even though I specifically told her that I was looking for a dog no more than 6 to 7 lbs. and that I didn't have a car and that I would have to literally carry her around when I was away from the home. I pray she gets a good loving home. Quote:
