| Food Aggression...please help! Hi all....I am having a problem with Spencer. I gave him a chickn jerky the other day and I went to pet him...well, he turned around and bit me! He snapped at my little boy the other day too when my son got close to him and his chicken jerky. If he's eating his regular kibble, and you go near he starts growling. I've hand fed him other treats and held him and petted him while he's eating them, and he didn't get aggressive, but he gets very aggressive with his kibble and his jerky treats. How can I make him stop this behavior? I mean, no one is going to take it from him, and it's not like he has to fight for his food. Help...please.

| Kizzy had a bone she has had a long time. The day she came home from getting spade she ran to the corner with it like she was hiding it. I figured she was hiding it from Maggie. But she kept staying in the corner in front of it with her back towards us behind an end table. It is glass top tables and of course I could see her just fine. I finally decided something was wrong with her and I went to see about her and called her name. She wouldnt look at me so i reached down gonna just see if she was ok and suddenly she turned and growled at me and snapped at me. So I let it go. figured maybe I scared her. Then a few nights after that I was trying to get her to go nite nite and she turned and growled at me, so I raised my voice (pretty loud) and told her, Girl, dont you ever growl or snap at me again and I grabbed her by the nap of the neck and just shook her really good. And since that when she tries to run away from me and I raise my voice to her she calms down and sits and looks at me and then I can walk up and pick her up and take her to her bed, as I still carry her to bed every night, the whole 8 lbs lol . She's never done that until after she came home from getting spayed. But I dont believe in being too aggressive to dogs until I have a reason. I just felt if I kept letting her get away with that she would keep doing it and maybe even get worse. So hopefully it worked. So far, So good. But Ive always heard when their babies their mom will pick them up like that and kinda shake them when they try to bite her or misbehave. If for no other reason I feel she is a pretty big girl and could be dangerous to me or someone else if I didnt get the upper hand right now.

| Please don't EVER let him get away with that type of behavior! You're only asking for more trouble.... For the time being ALL FOOD is to be handfed to him by you, your husband, children, anyone you can find. Do not leave his food bowl down and do not give him a whole jerky treat - break that into pieces and hand feed that too. If he has any special toys that he plays with start practicing the give command with them. Say he has his toy in his mouth playing, hold out your hand and say give. Do it until he lets you take the toy from his mouth. Eventually you will be able to do the same thing with his food. Good Luck...... If you're wondering how I know how to correct this, well I've been in the same boat with my Phoebi. It didn't take her long to stop being food aggressive. You can also search "google" for training techniques for food aggression. |

| she growled at me!!! whiskey is a very sweet-natured puppy(4 months) and loves everybody. well the other day i bought a bag of chicken jerky strips and was passing them around to all my dogs-they loved them!!! anyway she jumped on my bed with it and i don't let them eat on my bed and when i went to pick her up she growled and turned around and snapped at me!!! talk about hurt my feelings. she goes insane when she has a chicken jerky strip. i had to chase her all around the yard (which is a little over two acres) two days ago-she is FAST!!! she thought i was trying to get her treat but i was just trying to put her in the car so we could go visit family. i had to crawl under the house after her holding the whole dang bag of chicken treats so she would know i wasn't trying to get her jerky! any other treats she is as sweet as candy-who knows???

| Hi, I touch my babies, pet them and will take food from their bowls when they are eating, just so they know its ok. I start off doing this when they are babies. I fortunately have not any of them growl at me. I just got an English Bulldog pup and I have been doing this with her as well. She will just turn and look at me like "what mom".....
