| What would U do ab this vet? Sorry kinda long... My hubby and I just moved so we had to start using a new vet. I guess I got really spoiled bc our old vet had such great prices. The first time we took Hobbs to our old vet right after we got him, he didn't charge us a dime because he doesn't charge for a puppy or kitten's first visit. When Hobbs was young, I freaked out all the time that he might be sick or something, and I could just run him in, the vet would look at him, and if there wasn't anything wrong & I didn't need meds, he wouldn't charge me. Well when we started using the new vet, they seemed excessive. Hootie's first vet visit to just look over her for the health guarantee was $100 but I justified it by saying that I felt really comfortable with them, ect. Well, this past Saturday I took both babies in bc Hootie needed shots and Hobbs' needed nails clipped. The vet discovered that Hootie had a lot of bacteria in her ears and she asked if Hobbs had been scratching his ears. I said he had a little, so she took a culture of them, and then looked over the outside of his body. The process of looking over Hobbs took less than 3 minutes. (He did not have any bacteria, by the way.) All in all, I got both babies' nails trimmed ($6 each), Hootie got 3 shots, both dogs got ear cultures, Hootie got her ears flushed, and I had to buy 2 ear meds for Hootie. The total was $270! Now, I know prices are different for different parts of the country, but I thought this was outrageous! When Hobbs was a baby, he slightly fractured a bone in his leg by jumping off the couch. I was never charged anything like this even when we had to deal with the broken leg for 3 weeks! They charged me $75 just to look over Hobbs and take a culture of his ears, like I said, only took 3 min. So, I come home and told hubby how much the vet bill was and he was SOOO pissed. He has been saying all along that their prices are too high and that they rip us off. So, he made me call the vet and cancel their next appt and tell them that their prices were too high and that we had to find a new vet. The next day, the vet personally calls me back and tells me that she is sorry that they did not explain our payment options to us and that they could definately work something out as far as cheaper options. For example, they had to flush Hootie's ears, and instead, they could have sent us home with some flush to do it ourselves and it wouldn't have cost so much. She told me that everyone there LOVES Hootie and Hobbs and they would be sad if they didn't get to see them anymore. I told hubby all this, but he is still pissed and doesn't want me to go back there. So, my question is, should I go back and work out payment options with them? Compared to my vet in Bham, I do feel more comfortable with them. They are very sweet to my doggies and I don't worry about them when I have to leave them there. But, I just don't appreciate someone charging me $75 for just to look at Hobbs. My vet in Bham would NEVER have done that, and I think that shows that he not onlys cares about my dogs, but me also...you know? Sorry so long. My hubby says I'm long winded...I say I'm thorough. Any opinions would be appreciated. |

| I would probably at least see what their payment options are. Some vets offer a multi-dog discount. And some offer plans. Where I go, I have a monthly payment & get certain services each year. Any office visit is free (which is good for me cause i freak out if something's wrong), I get all her yearly vaccinations free, yearly teeth cleaning, I got her spay free, yearly exams (fecal, etc.). That's all I remember off the top of my head, but i know there's more. Anyway, maybe they offer something like this & you can work something out. I would personally at least check before I tried to find another vet. Finding a good vet is hard & if you find one like I'd try everything I could to stick with them, but if you do decide to change, I'm sure you'll find another good one!

| Since you're comfortable with them I would probably stay with them. Vets are so expensive. I took Brutus to the vet last month for 3 shots and an annual checkup along with some Frontline and the bill was $258! I don't think I've EVER walked out of the vet with a bill lower than $200! I'm in NJ so I don't know if that matters.

| I understand what you mean. My first visit with Jake at his vet pissed me off when the receptionist showed me the bill. The Dr. told me completly healthy and he was a perfect specimin of the breed, then I said to my self what would I have done if something was really wrong with him. I too tried to justify it, saying to myself he is going to the best vet in the city. But the most expencive thing was the flea treatment $80.00 why is this stuff so expencive. He also gave him vaccines, rabbies shot ect.. I had to draw the line though because they tried to charge me $19.00 each to clip my dog and cat's nails. |

| Well, we have just paid over 200 dollars (with multi-pet discount) at the vet for our cat's annual shots and Mia's 3rd set of shots. Mia's first visit was like 160 dollars. Sometimes it does seem like they are charging too much for certain things. Your new vet does not seem any different than the vet we go to. Hubby jokes and says, we are putting our vet's kids through college LOL. We got VPI superior for Mia because our vet costs so much. We just got 90 dollars back for her 2nd visit, sent in a claim for her 3rd, and the insurance covers Mia's spay too.

| I just took Kacee to my vet for a health check. She had ear mites and coccidia, he treated her for that and gave me 4 treatments go give her at home, put medicine in each ear for the mites and cut her nails. my bill was 73.39. no charge for the nail trim. the exam was 27.50 fecal flotation 15.72 albon 5 treatments 6.46 acarexx otic 21.95 ( i think this was for the ears). then added tax 1.76 and total was 73.39 I had no objections to my bill , plus gave me a free tube of advantage for fleas. Kizzy will be spayed tomorrow. 85.00 microchipped 30.00 not sure of anything else for tomorrow tho. And some people tell me my vet is higher than one further up in town.

P.S. -- I hope Kacee gets to feeling better soon! Hootie had coccidia a couple of weeks ago. It cleared up right away after we started using the Albon. Make sure you keep Kizzy away from Kacee's poop...coccidia is contagious! I'm sure you already knew that, though. | |

| Oh I could kick myself right now! I know of a really good vet in Hville I could refer you too, but I can't think of his name. He has really shaggy brown hair. And he knows ALL about emergencies. Grrrrr....I'm having a brain fart... |

| P.S. -- I hope Kacee gets to feeling better soon! Hootie had coccidia a couple of weeks ago. It cleared up right away after we started using the Albon. Make sure you keep Kizzy away from Kacee's poop...coccidia is contagious! He didnt say anything about that but said the ear mite will spread from one of them to the other and he is gonna chk Kizzy friday for that even tho she hasnt been scratching her ears. plus they do not sleep together. The do play together. He just ask if kizzy had been scratching her ears and she hasnt but he said they will ck her anyway while she is there. Kacee if feeling fine. She hasnt seemed like the coccidia is bothering her and the meds hasnt even made her have diarreah but stools a little softer. But when Kizzy had that she would drag her bottom on the ground even in gravel. So they had to give her two treatments for it. then the next 2 times i took her even tho the test came back negative they would still give her one dose of it just to make sure it was all gone but didnt charge me for it. For now Kizzy isnt having any problems with anything that I can tell. They both seem fine and full of energy and are eating good. But kizzy hasnt eaten as well for a few weeks but she just lost some baby teeth and cutting her adult teeth. So between that and the heat I just think thats why she wasnt, but the last two days she has eaten good. And Kacee is a little pig. lol
