| Another thing to worry about! I've read a few posts lately that mention having their puppy wear a collar & bell. So I just want to tell you my story...... I thought it was a good idea to put a collar with a little bell on Riley when I first got her. I use a harness with her leash, so the collar was purely for the being able to hear Riley. This way I can hear her when she runs around the house. She wore it only during the day. One day I had her on the kitchen floor & she started crying. This terrible "I'M IN PAIN" kind of cry. I hurried over & picked her up. At first I couldn't figure out what was wrong. But she apparently was scratching at her neck with her back foot & her nail was stuck in the bell. It took me & my daughter to maneuver it loose. That taught me! What if that had happened while I was gone? I no long put a collar & bell on her. |

| We had a similar situation last week! We all heard Ruby crying like she was being stuck by knives - all 6 of us ran into the kitchen at the same time to see the poor little girl tangled up in the throw rug that sat in front of the fridge. Seems one of us got distracted and didn't remove her harness when we came in and the little hook on the tag got stuck in the carpet loop while she was rolling around drying herself! Result - No more throw rug and big sign on wall asking if u remembered to take the pups harnesses off! |

| I agree, great reminders. Simon used to wear one with the bell too and we never had any problems. When I got Hallie they were playing together and I heard Simon choking. Hallie had gotten his collar stuck in her mouth and it was twisted so Simon was choking. I had to cut it off and it scared me to pieces. Since then neither of them have worn collars. It's very scary. |

| I only put a collar on mine when I'm trimming them up, to trim their backs & bellies. I can't leave one on either Tiffanie or Teddy they chew each others off! And Teddy has got his caught in his teeth before from tryin' to chew his own on. | I never leave Sean's harness on when we are out of the house. Lately, I remove it most of the time when we are home. Even though I can't hear him (tags on his harness make some sounds), I'm more comfortable knowing that he won't get tangled on anything. He really seems to like the freedom of not wearing it, too. |

Peeka Boo I See You! Donating Member | i have a bell on peeka during the day when he isn't in the playpen he is 11 weeks old and a week ago my sister slammed his foot in the door cause she didn't relize he was there so i now leave it on him on the harness when he is out but i do remove it at night or when he's put away sleeping.

| I was thinking of getting Meg a harness but now I'm gonna have to rethink it. her leash has a built in harness that just goes around her legs so we didnt need one but thought her tags and stuff should be on all the time. Not now I think Meg will be just fine without anything on while we are in the house. Good thread I never would of thought about something like this untill it was too late.. Thanks! Megs daddy |

| For those who do use collars for the purpose of keeping tags on their kids, there is always the option of using collars with "kitty klips". They are also known as "break-a-way buckles and are supposed to release with approximately 4 lbs. of pressure. Even so, we must always be villigent to the dangers that await our kids. |

| Tila has her tag for her microchip on her collar, and her rabies tag she wears her collar mostly all the time (we ofcourse use a harness for walking her) So we can hear her from the noise of those hitting eachother |

| I have Stealth Yorkies..... No Collars, No bells... but more because they cause breakage in their coats They are scary when you hear about all of the stories... the things that can happen when your not home.... Thats why mine are in their kennels when ever I leave... I just can't take any chances with them.... And I'm never gone very long... a couple hours tops... so they are hardly ever confined... but I at least have peace of mind when they are!!! Here is a picture of all three of them napping in their kennels... Doors wide open... they all just went into their own kennel and passed out! lol They love them!! Its amazing how attached they have become to their Kennels!!! I am so glad I stuck to my guns!! Having them Kennel trained has made life so easy with them!!! They are welcome Everywhere!!!! Its Awesome!!! And I never have to worry about them... I can always lock them up and out of harms way!!! No collars here!!! All of their tags are on their harnesses.... they wear them when we are out... Thank god for microchips, or they'd have no ID at all!!!

I was just going to post that suggestion of putting a couple tags on them so they'll make noise, instead of a bell. | |
