| So Disappointed Every year for the last 12 years our town (we live just north in the country) has what is called the "Hotdog Festival". The high school team is the Frankfort Hotdogs. I guess that's where they got the name. Anyway..they have bands, a hotdog eating contest, 3 on 1 basketball tourney, golf and a lot of craft booths (they are fun) and other things too. This year they are having a Diva Dog contest where the dog has a mike and sings (ought to be funny) and also a fashion show . The bad part is for the past few years it's been hot, tomorrow's temp is suppose to be 89 degrees and humid. The doggie part starts at noon. Another year I won't be taking my babies. They are use to being in AC all the time, unless we have a cooler evening, then I let them outside. Don't you think it will be too hot for them during the middle of the day? I guess I'm just venting, but every year I want to take my babies and the weather just doesn't cooperate. I'm just afraid they will get sick since they are not use to hot humid weather. What are your thoughts?

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | hmmmmm...that's a good question - We have super hot weather here and my girls are in the yard when I am - I just make sure they have lots of water available. What about going for an hour or so ? I bet they'd be ok - and you can always find some shade for them - maybe bring a sprayer of water to cool them off ? |

| That may work. Two of them are really small (3lbs 8 ozs and 2 lbs 9 ozs), but if I take plenty of water and some water in a spray bottle, maybe they will be okay. I do have a stroller so they wouldn't be walking or carried and getting hotter. I would just love to show them off. If it was only for a little while I guess it would be okay. I'm just so over protective it's terrible. Thanks for the advice.

| My babies can't take the heat either. It's 86 out right now and they won't go out to the lanai. They love the AC. Maybe you can suggest to the judges when you go, to have the contest next year earlier in the morning before it gets too hot. I'm sure they are up for suggestions on whats best for our little ones. |

| Mine go out in the heat, and seem to tolerate it. I don't even consider 89 that hot. We're going to have 101, and I want to go to an agility trial. I feel sorry for those poor dogs. My dogs will not be in it, I just wanted to go with my daughter who has a border collie pup and I'm trying to encourage her to get him into some agility classes. I'd take them and if I thought they were getting to hot, I'd go home. I'm guessing if you can tolerate, it they can too. |

| It's always close to 100 when I get home from work and have to take Sadie outside. She does ok. We don't stay out long & I take water.

| Just to give you an idea of what i deal with. It is 10:30am and already 97 degrees here and the humidity will make your hair frizz in an instant if you go outside. Thats Florida for you! My baby does fine with the weather here. I always make sure he has plenty to drink and shade if he needs it. We take him in the boat most weekends and he loves it. I would think your kidos would be okay for a little while at least.

| Can they drink from a water bottle? If not, maybe take along a doggie bowl for them to drink from periodically so they stay hydrated. Maybe spray them with a little water to keep them cool and just stay an hour or so. I bet they would enjoy it! |

| weather Yorkies do well in hot and cold weather..but I have found you need to work up to it. If they are thrown into the heat or cold suddenly they do not always do well...but if you take them out for a longer length of time each day, they adapt well. In hot weather, they need shade and water..in the cold, they need to be kept dry and out of the wind. If you have a carrier you can put those plastic ice packs in the crate ..show people do this..they can go in and cool off from time to time. Cold weather does not worry me, but hot/humid does..heat stroke is so common on a coated breed if they are not used to heat...Best wishes |
