| Angel's Paw Pads and Nails TCC and I were wondering if the size of Angel's larger pads on her front paws look normal? He doesn't think they were that big before. I can't say whether they're larger now or not, but I do think they seem big. They are larger than the back pads. Are the front pads supposed to be bigger or the same size as the back ones? I attached pictures of all 4 of them so you can take a look. We told our vet that we see Angel licking/chewing her paws sometimes. She said dogs do groom themselves, but if our baby is excessively chewing her paws, it could be allergies. She said the fur would be orange where it's brown, and the paw between the nails would be red. I don't see any orange, and it's hard to see between the nails cuz of all her hair. Angel recently had a yeast infection in her ears, and she said this could possibly be linked to it. She said if she rubs her face as well, it could be due to food allergies. We don't think she's licking/chewing them excessively, but we'll keep an eye on her. One or two of her nails were split on one side. Do dogs normally chew on their nails? I had to cut/pull off the split parts. Last edited by DJ30; 07-24-2006 at 09:27 PM. |

| Well, I just annoyed both my sleeping yorkies to check and both of them have larger pads on the front paws than the rear. They look pretty normal in the pictures, I think. Brandy used to chew her nails all the time until they were shredded. It drove me crazy. She just seemed to grow out of it. We never found a cause. It just seemed like a bad habit, like a person who chews his fingernails. She still does it occasionally but not very often.

| We're talking about the large central pad on the paw. The best description I can come up with is the pad looks like a blister filled with "water". The pad is not level with the others on the paw. I would say it is about 2/16"-3/16" higher. |
