| frustrated with my yorkie Hi , My name is Stephanie and I have a 3 year old spayed yorkie. Our family is very attached to her but over the last six months or so, she has had frequent pee accidents in my new home and of course, that is frustrating. Our vet said nothing is medically wrong with her and that she probably needs to be retrained. Being a Mother to four, I just don't know if I want to do that all over again. My question is this, is this common for yorkies to go backwards in their house training and also I have heard that it is very difficult to retrain them. Any opinions or feedback would be great. Thanks, Stephanie |

Donating YT 14K Club Member | Stephanie, I have heard of yorkie regressing. I've also heard that they are one of the hardest breeds to potty train. Mine will still go in the house if it's raining outside and we have a covered patio. I'm not the best at training methods so I'll help you by *bumping* this thread up so it doesn't get buried.

| My little girl will be 3 in August. I tiled the whole bottom portion of our house after we got her, because I read they were hard to train. I have to admit it took her a while, but she has had the hang of it for over 2 years now and hasn't regressed. She is 3.5 lbs and has a small bladder so I try to let her out often. Hope you get some ideas and answers here. |

| I'm feeling the same frustration, my miko is 2 years old and will go outside and pee, and then come inside and pee all over the house, he's driving me nutso! I thought that maybe having him neutered would make a difference, but I guess that didn't work in your case??

| Is there anything that changed in the last couple of months that could have influenced your yorkie's regression? For example, my husband and I recently moved. And for the first two weeks, it seemed like we had to pay attention to Trixie every second of the day to make sure she didn't go potty in the house (but she did anyway...). It just took a little more attention, and more trips outside (and lots of praise) to get her back on track. I understand that with four kids you feel that don't have time to retrain her all over again. But if you want her to be re-potty-trained, you may have to spent a little more time with her then usual...

| Dixie is three and I've had her since December and she still won't let me know that she has to go out. I let her out about every two or three hours and I have recently purchased a doggy diaper for her to see if that will help keep her from going in the house. I am hoping she won't want to potty in her diaper and will start telling me when she has to go. I have been using potty pads also and she's been good about going on them when I have to be gone for more than a few hours. She stays in her playpen when I am not able to supervise her. Hang in there, just look on the bright side, yorkies make small messes. You could be in my shoes housebreaking two Bernese Mountain Dog puppies and a yorkie! My Berners pee lakes and poop mountains and it takes a half a roll of paper towels to clean it up, but they are catching on quickly. |

And no, my wife is not correct when she says I think Bailey "pees perfume and poops Hershey bars." That is NOT true and it is NOT why I find it so hard to get mad at her. It's just that she's so darn cute! | |

| Well yorkies can forget where they have to do their business if they have an accident inside and they see nothing happens. For example, cindy used to do it on a pad but we ran out of pads once and were too lazy to go get more and when we got some pads afterwards, she had figured out that she could go anywhere she wanted. Try teaching her again or if you're too busy then try the Simple Solutions Pads with the Simple Solutions training spray. It works wonders. |

| Maybe she can't smell her scent in your new house and is peeing everywhere to mark her territory (do girl Yorkies do this?). Anyway, when we moved into our new house, Nootie did the same thing, but I could tell he was going in one place more than any other, so I put a bathroom rug there and he started peeing on that, which is great, because I can throw it in the washing machine. They are really hard to train, and when we go outside, Noots does not get off of the patio. He doesn't like the feel of grass on his feet! |
