| My older yorkie, Hobbs, is already neutered and I will be spaying Hootie when she is old enough. There are too many health risks NOT to get them fixed. Do any kind of research and you will see for yourself that it is SO much better for a pet's health to get them fixed. |

Someone correct me if I'm wrong here, but I believe that once a female goes through her first heat, her chances of developing mamary cancer go up 50% AND the boys can develop cancers as well (especially if they have a retained testical that hasn't dropped). Having your pet spayed or neutered protects your dog! Also, I'm not sure if I read your post correctly - are you planning on breeding your puppy someday? Do you have experience breeding? It's not something I would just let 'happen' - it's important that you do your research. Dogs usually have at least 2 or more (sometimes as many as 7) puppies at a time and most people don't keep them - they sell them - so how would the mother see her puppies grow up? Would you keep all the puppies?

| First of all, I commend you for asking this question and stating your feelings. If you are not planning on breeding a dog, then it should be spayed/neutered. And if you are planning on breeding the dog, it should be for the right reasons such as improving the breed not breeding because you want to see your dog become a mother. If you are serious about breeding, do your research and do it for the right reasons. Remember, alot of things can go wrong in breeding. Are you prepared to have complications of birth, have puppies die, have the moma dog reject the puppies, lose your dog in the process?? Breeding can be great, but I would never breed them just because they would make a good mother. Please don't take this the wrong way, I just think it is important that you know this and realize what your motives are and the effects you have from them.

Nicole, you're clearly not one of those, LOL! Those poor pictures of Baby, hehe. She's so cute, even when she's pitiful. Bless.

I'm actually taking my aunt to get her Yorkie fixed next week. She doesn't want to see Zoie in a pitiful state, but I'm making her get spayed! She's Baby's age and didn't even have her first heat yet! Maybe cuz she's so tiny (5lbs). My aunt just got her 2 weeks ago.
