This may sound silly but what does wean mean ??? My breeder just sent me this email As soon as it arrives, I'll call the vet to get the flight health certificate done. Then she can ship out. She is eating dry Eukanuba small breed puppy food, so she is ready to wean. She is really small and adorable- you got a darling puppy. Lisa What does weaned mean? I hear people talking about it, but I never knew what it meant?

I really don't have a lot of pictures of her (well I did but I accidentally erased them off of my hard drive) Her name is Gia and I'll be getting her 7/14 (I'm so excited). I had two more things that I'm confused about 1. Her ears will they already be standing up, she'll be about 9 wk or 10 wk when I get her 2. Her tail will I have to get it snipped or do they naturally have short tails Gia is the puppy to the left (far left) & the other picture is a picture of her Mom 9with the two cats) . I hope she gets her Mom's coat ( I love her coloring)

These are things that you should be asking your breeder. Yorkies have long tails, usually the breeder gets their tails docked. It really depends about the ears. They are supposed to stick up, but sometimes it may take a while. Sometimes, they do not go up on their own, you may have to "help" them.

The tail is docked when they are 3 to 5 days old. If the breeder didn't do this then I would just keep her natural tail and not go through an amputation. I think you will get use to the natural tail very quickly, if that's the case. I have one with a natural tail and it looks just fine. Some ears can stand as early as 8 weeks, but some take up to 6 months. I would say that most stand before 3 months. Gia is so cute. How much does she weigh and how old is she right now? How long of a flight will it be, including the 1 hour prior to flight drop off time?

Last time the breeder checked she was about 25oz, but that was a few weeks ago. I'll have her accurate weight when Lisa takes her to the vet to get all her paperwork so she can fly out (she said she's very tiny her adult weight will be around 4-5 pounds). The flight is around 4 1/2 hours she's flying out of Albany, GA, to Newark, NJ. She putting her on the 6AM flight so she could avoid the heat restrictions so she's arrive here by 10 AM. I'm so scared I'm going to do something wrong, when should I bring her to the vet? Like should I make an appointment for the next day after she arrives just to make sure everything is okay or should I wait to take until she's due for her next shots. | |

If she was about 1 pound 9 oz (25 oz) at 8 or 9 weeks then she probably will stay in the 4 to 5 pound range, but if she was only 6 or 7 weeks she will probably be bigger than that. Most guarantees state a specific time limit (usually 24 to 72 hours) for notifying the breeder of any problems discovered at the vet appointment. An initial vet consultation isn't that expensive and I would definitely recommend it. He'll be able to listen to her heart and lungs, check her knee joints, etc. Bring in a fresh fecal (#2) sample so he can check for parasites (worms, giardia, coccidia, etc.) Make sure you have Nutrical, Nutristat or Nutridrops on hand. The nutridrops are faster acting and longer lasting, but are sometimes harder to find. Give it to her the minute you can and bring food and water with you. You might want to buy a jar of baby food pureed meat to get food into her as quickly as possible. Also ask the breeder to give her Nutrical right before putting her on the flight to you. I would continue to give it to her 3 or 4 times a day until she settles in. You will also need to feed her at least 4 times a day. All of this is to try to prevent hypoglycemia (low blood sugar). You can read about hypoglycemia at www.glassyorkies.homestead.com just select hypoglycemia on the left.

Age? I thought the puppy had to be a certain weight before shipping? I bought one 12 years ago....and she had to weigh 2 lbs before shipping....but that may have just been the breeder..... When was your puppy born???? Not sure if you posted that or not... Good luck!
