What happened?

So last week Gracie was yelping loudly whenever she would go poop. I wasn't sure if she ate something that wouldn't digest or what...I immediatly called the vet and reluctantly took her to a random vet here in Pittsburg because I cuoldn't drive home and take her to my parents dogs vet. They gave her an enema and told me she should be fine!!! This vet enraged me!! I don't really know what was wrong with her...I kept asking questions and he kept saying she should be fine!!! which she is but I wish I knew what caused this little problem so I can prevent it!!! Has anyone had a similar experience with thier puppy?? I didn't know if she was just constipated, becaus she was still pooping??

Was she shaking, also? Scrappy gets constipated form time to time...he will squat but nothing or very little will come out...then he walks around in this squat position... he gets some poop out, then shakes (as if he just had a bath), I guess to try to "sling" the rest out...then he cries and shakes...I put him in the tub, then continually splashed his little butt with warm water (using a cup) until all the poopy was gone...I also massage his little sides...however, do the massage OUTSIDE after you see taht she is constipated... I did it inside one time, then he shook...it was awful...poor baby...ok, so to keep her stools softer, feed her about 1/2 tsp a day of 100% pure canned pumpkin (not the kind with spices)...this should help...watch her stools and adjust the amount you are giving her accordingly...does she eat Greenies? These do not always digest properly...

Omg

All I can offer is an experience I had. It is embarassing, but here goes. Shortly after I got my pup, I was wiping his little behind for him because he was so young and his stools were soft. Anyway, I must have missed some and it dried and 'plugged' him up. When he tried to go, he appeared constipated and he strained and strained, and got upset and shook because he was afraid...poor little guy. The breeder happened by and I explained the situation and -here comes the worst part- the breeder said it happens alot with pups- and they then forcefully removed the dried up fecal matter. It was about an inch long and my little guy screamed and screamed. But he was all better and so happy after that and I made sure to firm up his stools, so that it all passes and doesn't leave some still inside.
The fact that this vet would not tell you what the problem was causes me to think your pup was also plugged, so they needed to have an excuse to charge you a fee, so they told you they did an enema. Anyway, that's my view.

Talking

Something similar happened to Biddy. When she was about 6 months old she started screaming every time she went poop. And this wasn't a little cry. She would scream! We took her to the vet and it turned out to be an anal gland infection. I guess the anal gland fills up and needs to be drained periodically. They did it at the vet and now she gets it done when she goes to the groomer. I guess people do it themselves, but I don't trust myself!!!
