| please stamp out the cruel industry... I wanted to share a email I received and hoped maybe you might want to show support to To Governor Rendell.. It's a start!.. someone is watching out for these poor animals Hi Joann, Puppy mills frequently house dogs in shockingly poor conditions: overcrowded, unsanitary, lacking in adequate shelter, food, water and human companionship. Pennsylvania Governor Rendell recently made an important step in transforming this cruel industry. Send him your thanks and support! Today, thousands of dogs suffer a miserable existence in what are known as "puppy mills." These mass dog-breeding "factories" frequently house dogs in shockingly poor conditions: overcrowded, unsanitary, lacking in adequate shelter, food, water and human companionship. Pennsylvania Governor Rendell is working hard to change this. Show your support! Inside puppy mills, the health of the dogs is disregarded in order to maximize profit. They are caged their entire lives and bred at every opportunity until they are no longer physically able to reproduce. After the dogs are no longer profitable they are commonly killed or abandoned. Recently, members of the Pennsylvania Dog Law Advisory Board received pink slips from Pennsylvania Governor Rendell, in what he called the first step toward addressing inhumane conditions at the growing number of commercial dog breeding operations. Send your thanks. Pennsylvania is often referred to as the puppy mill capital of the east with Lancaster County having the highest concentration of puppy mills of any county in the country. Governor Rendell made an important step in transforming this industry that deserves to be recognized. Please join the ASPCA in sending a message of support to Governor Rendell to let him know that his efforts are not going unnoticed! Perhaps with our encouragement, other leaders will follow in his footsteps. | What's sad is for years Pa already has had a "puppy lemon law" and a system to over see breeders that sell 25 or more dogs. (the same numbers as the new proposed P.A.W.S. bill) The problem isn't the laws, its the law breakers. Somehow the mills have been getting around the mandatory inspections for humane care. What we need is better enforcement of the laws in place. No matter how many bills or laws are added if they don't enforce them properly and people break them, they are meaningless. |
