| Traveling - Is It OK To Leave One Home?? I am wondering what you all do if you have more then 1 dog and you want to take them shopping with you. I have Codie and Tia. I can't take them both shopping with me because they both don't fit into a carrier together, and most stores won't let them WALK around, but being inside a carrier is ok. So usually I leave them home together. Hubby and I are looking into getting a third and final dog (hubby may divorce me if I get anything past 3 dogs LOL!!) We're interested in getting a Chihuahua and I already found an AWESOME AWESOME loving breed right here on YT. She's truly a great breeder and I look forward to getting a baby from her in the future. So my question/concern is ... when I eventually do get my Chi, would it be ok to take her with me shopping and leave Codie and Tia home (or vice versa with one of my other dogs, meaning I'd take Codie and leave Tia and the Chi home, or I'd take Tia and leave Codie and the Chi home)? That way I'd be able to give all my dogs a chance to go shopping with me without leaving the other dog home ALONE -- at least the 2 would be together and have each other for company for that short period of time. Is this ok? Would it make them jealous and fight with each other? PS - Keep in mind that I'm not talking about going to the park or a relatives house. I'm also not talking about being gone the entire day. If I am gone the entire day, ALLLLL of my dogs go with me! I'm talking about being gone for no more then a few hours at a time -- just running some general errands. Like going to the post office or running to a store (like Linens n Things or Bed, Bath & Beyond, etc.)

| Dogs are like people. . .they each have their own personalities so it is really hard to say. I walk Tiger a lot but I want Annika to see it so that when Annika needs to leave (to go to the vet), I make sure Tiger sees it to . . .this way they realize that sometimes it is necessary that not both of them can come along. I hear Annika bark a lot when we leave though . . .but hopefully she will be able to join us for walks since she is now complete with her first 3 sets of shots. |

| Hey Jen - I only take the dog that has sucked up to me the most. Seriously, I only have one that is really comfortable meeting other people, going in and out of the car and peeing in a public place . I really don't think the rest of the gang minds but they sure do sniff Moose over when he comes home.

| Well I don't have any help for you but here's what I do.... I try to take them each equally when I go to somewhere.... Like I go and visit my dad 2 times a month and I take turns with them each time I go. I don't know if they really realize it but I try ya know. Lucy never seems to be bothered when she's the one staying home but Tank really doesn't like it. He trys to be a little rough with Lucy when I bring her home. I would take them both if it wasn't for tank being a little agressive with other dogs. I know he's still young and I'm hoping to train him out of it myself but if it doesn't work them I guess I'm gonna have to fork out the money for a trainer.. My dad has a pom and it's to much to look after tank and lucy. Well I guess I'm not much help, I guess like someone else said you'll just have to try it and see how the other dogs act when you come back home. Crystal

| I've had Hallie for 2 years and have never taken just one of them. I either take both or go alone. I'm not sure either of them could handle being away from the other. |

| I have a Yorkie, Chihuahua & Jack Russell I usually only take one of the dogs with me to run errands unless I am going to Petsmart. They all love that outing. I try to take turns with them but usually end up taking my chihuahua the most because she is 4 and is so calm and well behaved. Plus, she loves being packed around. The other two are still puppies and prefer to stay home and rough house. It's really not that much fun for a puppy to be confined to a car seat and then be carted around a store. I do like to take the other two occasionally just to develop their social skills. They will bark and cry a little when they realize they are being left home but in the long run, I'm sure that they have more fun at home with each other. I don't think it is mean at all to leave 2 at home. I just try not to run errands very often during the week as I work full time and know that they all need my attention in the evenings after being home alone all day. |
