| Daily honey fix As Millie is our first Yorkie and first pup, she's 9 weeks, I'm taking advice from books, all you fab Yorkie Talk members and the internet and of course the breeder. She recommended that we must give her morning and night some honey in a syringe - only a teeny bit to keep her sugar levels up - is this common and does it only apply to Yorkies or other breeds ?

| I think it is common in all the toy breeds, but definitely in Yorkies. Many do say to give honey, but since I have read so many times that you shouldn't give honey to a baby until they are 1 year (and have read don't give to puppies) because of bacteria I prefer to use Nutracal or Nutristat. It also is more beneficial because it has other things besides sugar. |

I Love My Lil' Punkin's Donating Member | Nutri-Cal Hi alonsdale, I agree with Lacy's Mom. I also give the Nutri-Cal, however...I only give it to him at night before he goes to bed, and any time we have to leave him home by himself during the day (even if we are just running to the gas station or whatever - because you never know when their blood sugar is going to drop!). I have also given him regular Pancake/Waffle syrup, but I much prefer the Nutri-Cal because as Lacy's Mom said, it has other beneficial ingredients rather than just sugar. It is Vet recommended and you can find it at your local Pet Smart (don't know if you have one in your area??), your vet's office probably sells it, or heck, even some local feed stores here in town carry it. Just look around - isn't hard to find! I get mine at Pet Smart for about $6-$7 bucks. Just squeeze some on the tip of your finger and they lick it right off - they love it! It's thicker than the syrup so there is no syringe needed. Hope that helped ya some!

| Puppies only need to be supplemented if they are NOT eating their regular food.... or they are really, really small. I only use the Nutrical when weaning pups from mom at 6 weeks... until they are eating well (which is only a few days). Best of luck with your new pup.

I Love My Lil' Punkin's Donating Member | I also agree. I have a friend who woke up in the middle of the night to find her yorkie having seizures due to low blood sugar, she is still not sure what caused it. Could have been anything. The Nutri-Cal doesn't hurt them, it's actually good for them...so giving them some before bed and before you leave them at any time won't hurt It's always better to be safe than sorry!
