Some belly bands are made to where you have to put a disposable pad on the belly band and just throw the pad away each time. I myself think that would be a pain and rather pricey too. I go with the belly bands that have a middle layer that absorbs the moisture keeping your house safe. And when it gets dirty, all you have to do is wash it. So it is all a matter of preference that determines what belly band to go with.

Most puppies don't like to be wet and therefore with a bellyband on will try to hold it. This is what I do... I will put the belly band on him and then every couple of hours I will take him to the pee pad to see if he has to go. When he is in the playpen, I just leave pads down and he goes to those. Of course the first few times he peed in his bellyband but then realized he did not like peeing and being wet so he learned to hold it until I took him to the pee pad. You just have to make sure that you take him to the pee pad enough because as young as your pups are, they won't be able to hold it long.

as far as the belly bands are concerned. you need to keep a close eye on him to see when he is actually peeing. if you do and immidately take him out side or to his pad (which ever you use), it shouldn't make any difference whether he has a belly band or not. only the messes. I have tiled floor so It wasn't such a big deal with me. my mop bucket it vinegar water was always handy. LOL (and I used it a lot) I hope it all goes well for you. I bet you can't wait until Monday. we hope to see pictures soon.

| Personally, I wouldn't want to use them too much with a young puppy. Because they learn from mistakes. If he has a belly band on you will miss the opportunity to catch him peeing, to tell him no and redirect. I would certainly use them when you couldn't watch him. |

| When we got Winston he was 5 months old and the breeder had belly bands on him when he was in the house. We found that he would just go in them all the time. So we stopped using them and took him to the pee pad every hour. He figured it out very quickly. I think if I would have keep using the belly bands he would always go in them and I thought they were a pain in the butt. Putting them on and off. But this is just my opinion. Hope you enjoy them.

Btw, you aren't the only one with a husband sick of hearing you talk about the puppies. I think my bf is sick of hearing me talk about Kona or yorkies in general. Lol He loves her too, but he hasn't found this site, so yorkies aren't on his mind 24/7. | |
