| My poor dog was shaved - pics and questions inside Hey everyone, I'm new to this forum. I've had my yorkie for about four months, she's still a puppy. Anyways, I brought her to the groomer, and asked for a "summer cut," thinking that the groomer would just take a little bit more off. Boy was I wrong. When I went to pick my dog up, the groomer told me I could go in the back and get her. I went out back, and couldn't find my dog. So I called the groomer over and asked where my dog was. "Right here." she says, and points to a dog that looks exactly like a chihuahua. I was in shock. She had shaved all of my dogs hair off. I think the groomer knew something was wrong, and told me puppies were free, but I couldn't walk out without paying her, even though my dog was botched, so I gave her 20$ and left. So now, my dog seems to be horribly depressed. She's usually hyper and now she just seems to mope around the house. She won't play with our other dog, and just lays around all day. So my question is, how long on average does it usually take for yorkies to grow their hair? I've enclosed three pictures. The first two are when she was a puppy, about three months ago, and the last was taken today in her chihuahua state. As you can see, she took a good shaving. Any ideas on how long it will take for her to get some length on her hair again? Thanks. |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I would guess about 1/2 inch a month. She still looks cute. Even in a month she will look more like a yorkie.

| Their hair does seem to grow back fairly fast. It is a shock though, when your not expecting it, isn't it? Our first grooming experience was somewhat the same..not quite as shaved, but a lot lot lot shorter than I was expecting. Cooper grew out fairly fast, and so I went to try another groomer, and she appeared to only wave the scissors over him....where is that middle ground???? I will say I prefer not enough cut, than too much. I hope your baby gets to feeling better about herself...and welcome to YT!!

| wow I think the groomer was on crack..never in all my years of grooming would I do that to someones dog unless the told me to shave entire body and face...and no one has ever asked for that...you would be doing the public a favor to tell the groomer what they did wrong... |

| Bailey's firt trip to the groomer was perfect - but not because we had the sense to ask the right questions or give the right instructions. We happened upon a groomer that had 5 Yorkies of her own - and she had pictures of them up beside the reception desk. After comparing our experience with some of the things I've heard of on YT, I would suggest to new Yorkie owners - DON'T ASSUME ANYTHING. (1) Ask lots of questions about the groomer's experience WITH YORKIES. Pictures would be very good to back up what they say about their experience; and (2) be very clear in your instructions about how much you want taken off (or how much you want left) on what part of the body. If you can't tell them what you want, you can't really be too upset over their not giving you what you want. All that may not assure you of getting what you want, but responsible groomers (like YorkieRose) will certainly be able to follow your instructions - or have the sense to ask questions about points that are uncertain. By the way, the damage always looks worse to those of us closest to the "victim." Your pup is still a cutie - just not cute the way you're used to seeing her. Also, I'd guess that her depression is probably due to an unpleasant experience at the groomer or she's picking up on your depression/anger/frustration over the experience. |

| Hi, first wanted to say that your Yorkie is adorable! Her hair will grow back really quick but you'll have enough time to find another groomer before the next cut . As to her behavior, I find that our furbabies can be really sensitive to our reactions. Maybe your furbaby picked up on your displeasure. I was told a couple of years ago, when my cocker got a bad cut and became moppy, to tell him how beautiful he looked and be really upbeat. This seemed to work for me! By the way to YT

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | HOLY COW ! That groomer even shaved down the FACE ! You were WAY nicer than I think I'd have been - NO groomer should shave a yorkie like THAT - and without asking first ? no way ! but the upside is - it WILL GROW BACK - but wow - Sorry - but that one has Chanels BAD haircut beat by a mile..... LOL ! You must have been in shock Keep telling her how CUTE she looks - (yes us moms have to lie sometimes) and actually... she DOES look very cute - but with no hair on her face - no one will know you have a yorkie for a few months... Bless her heart - she'll get used to it - and so will you - maybe put a shirt on her so she doesn't feel so naked ? PS...I have written instructions for groomers I used to leave with them - even with it in writing - they can mess up - but you have a better chance of that NOT happening when you put it in writing. |

YT Addict | [F] I can't believe that the groomer did that to your dog!!! They should have paid you not the other way around. I hope your dog feels better about herself, but I agree with yorkierose you would be doing a public service by telling them what was wrong. Any how she is very cute.!!! [/FONT] |

| your puppy is cute even with no hair. I thought I had it bad when they cut Prince's face hair that I didn't want them to. Maybe a cute little outfit would be in order until your pup has hair again. julie

| Wow! When I go to the groomer I specifically say do NOT shave her hair off! But, in my opinion, and I'm not trying to be rude, but that third picture doesn't even look like your dog. I know this is a stupid question, but r u sure she's yours? Oh, and I've never heard of a puppy being free. She just knew she fudged up!

| Welcome to YT... Hi and Welcome to Yorkie Talk ...I am so sorry that your first grooming experience was not a positive one. Bailey's first trip was bad as well....She cut more off, though not that much, but more then she had been asked, his face was pretty much shaved and I had told her I was growing it out....He was 4 months and he is on his way next week to a different groomer.......Bailey acted sullen for a day or so after his bad experience and I found that putting a little sweater on him made him feel a little more comfortable, and he came around , started playing more and eating again..... Try to keep your chin up, I know its hard but she is such a beautiful little gal, and in no time at all it will start coming back.

| I am so sorry your first experience with the groomer wasn't a good one. Luckily for me (and Lola ) we found a good one right off. She is expensive, but I don't want to risk a bad haircut for my girl. I guess we all have to just use trial and error. Don't worry, your baby's hair will grow back fast.
