| Question about house training. And a confession Did you think it was easier to house train a male or a female. To be honest I owned a pup Andy for only 2wks and he unfortunatly died. His death to be honest was partially my fault and have had a very difficult time dealing. I am telling this in hopes that no one will bash me.My sweet boy had no poop accidents in the house, a few pee but no poop. I have wondered if a girl is easier or worse or if it makes a difference. Please forgive me for not telling about my puppy. The breeder was nice and told me accidents happen but it didnt help with my guilt. the breeder called and my new baby girl (unless I change my mind to a male) was born on 6/4. When I heard the message on my cell I felt like I had just had a baby . It is all so confusing as what to do. I have had someone tell me to start using puppy pads not taker the puppy outside and that her started on her own to want to go outside.Others have told me they were having hard time with the pads (another girl). The thing is I used the crate with andy and we really did well with it; like I said he never pooped in the house at all. Please forgive me for telling about andy. Thanks so much for all the help I love this site. |

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | I had to read you post 2 times and I think you're asking about training ? I only have girls and one was trained on a pad in less than 2 weeks - the other over 10 MONTHS. It all depends on the yorkie. You mentioned you lost a puppy - do you want to talk about it ? No one is here to bash anyone ...we've seen too many sad accidents unfortunately.... and that's what they are - ACCIDENTS. They happen and are always hard to hear about... but we are here to help. Unless someone abused their dog - no one will bash you for this. I'm sorry you lost your puppy. There is a TON of information on this site and a SEARCH button where you can use key words to read more about yorkie puppies and training issues - Also - the Training section may help you in researching this. |

| I read your post a couple of times and I havent figured out yet what you mean by "it was partially my fault". How could it be your fault, just because he didnt poop in the house. I'm just confused here. Sorry, but no matter what happened there is no way I would bash you.

| It was one of those things thatmy husband thought I had let him in and I thought he had but in reality he fell from the patio. My husband and I both tried cpr on him and their was nothing that could be done. I cried for days and still feel guilty as I shouldnt have left him there. A simple harness prob would have saved his life. Its been about three months and I still live with the guilt of his accident. Edit to say sorry I have jumped topic and confused people. I guess I wanted to ask a question and also share my angel yorkie.I cant stand to look at his pictures. Last edited by Kadrew; 06-17-2006 at 06:26 PM. |

YT Addict | [F]I am so sorry you lost your puppy that has to be really hard. But it was an accident. All I know is that everything in this world happens for a reason. We may never understand some things but its true. I had to put my dog to sleep in High School. She was an Alaskan Malamute. She was so beautiful and her personality was that of a queen. She was a Brat but I loved her. She has cancer and I had her on meds she lived about a year after I found the lump on her neck. The meds made her crazy and she just wasn't happy. It kills me think of her now but she is in a better place. I hope she can forgive me I did it to end her pain. But even that happened for a reason. I don't know what that reason is but I just pray that she can understand. I am sure even if you don't know the reasons why that your puppy is in heaven. Let he who is with out fault cast the first stone! Nobody is perfect. [/FONT] |

| I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your pet. It wasn't your fault. It was an accident. I do not know that a female or male is eaiser to housetrain. Every dog is different. I have had success with both with about the same time frame.

| That is so sad! I am so sorry you had to go through all of that. Although accidents do happen.........good luck with your new puppy. Each puppy is so diff. regardless if male or female. One point.... if you get a male, most will spray once they are mature UNLESS you get them neutered.

| I'm so sorry about your last baby. Don't blame yourself. All Yorkies are different, it's not really based on gender. But if you do get another boy, neutering helps houstraining tremendously.

| I think talking about it helps. I have heard on this forum of many accidents that have happend so you are definately not alone in feeling guilty or sad or anything else...It truly is unfortunate that these accidents have happend but we all have the best intentions for our babies and that is what counts. For us, dh accidentally ran over our favorite cat..it was a terrible accident and we cried and had to deal with this quickly for she broke her back and there was nothing to be done about it but ease her pain immediately. Accidents happen and we learn from them and remember how these animals have touched our lives. I still dream of her at night and feel like she visits me. I feel like she wasn't ready to die...and hope she comes back to us one day..
