| Underbite & Open Fontanel Morning all, I am a proud owner of a 11 month old baby yorkie who's name is Dylan. We feel absolutely in love with him and so we dediced we wanted to get a female. I recently purchased my female for $1000 from a breeder who seems very responsible, caring and honest. Once I got the puppy home and took her to the vet I found out she has a underbite and she has a small soft spot on the top of her head. The vet informed me that the soft spot could cause problems down the road. The breeder her sold her to me cause she was not going to be able to breed her cause she was so small. She was a preemie at birth. She weighs about 1.6 lbs at 14 weeks. I called the breeder after finding out this information from my vet and she said she was not aware of these problems. Both the dam and sire are fine and don't have these issues. She gave me a 1 year heath guarantee but I am struggling with giving the puppy back. I am now attached to her but I am nervous of more problems down the road. I would appreciate any advice from all you out there that have more experience than myself, including other breeders. I believe this woman is being honest with me and I wish I would have waited to have her take the puppy to the vet before me picking her up. I guess I didn't realize the puppy had not yet been to the vet since she has some of her vaccinations. HELP! I love my puppies. Jen |

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | Oh wow - I can't help with the open fontanel but do have a cocker with a bad underbite. She was unable to eat food by herself as a puppy because her bottom teeth were set so far back - (When I found out she could possibly have been put down.... I HAD to bring her home with me) (and no we did NOT get her from a good breeder ...it was 10 years ago and we didn't know any better about the place we got her from) I still to this day hand feed her....even though now... I know she CAN pick up food - but since I babied her - I can't fault her for expecting ME to feed her lol Good luck with your puppy ! |

| i guess the soft spot is just like a babies and hasnt grown over, i think what they do with babies is put a hard hat on them so it cant be knocked and cause brain damage and sometimes they can graft a piece of bone over the hole, ask your vet if anything can be done and how you can keep it covered.

| When we got Lola, she also had a soft spot. The vet told us that it may never close all the way and it hasn't yet. We are conscious of her soft spot and we worry, but there are plenty of dogs that have the same problem and live normal lives. Just be careful around your baby. I wouldn't trade my Lola for anything, even though she is not perfect medically.
