| How do I start grooming my own dogs? What's the best way to learn how to groom your own yorkie? I have a "cotton coat" yorkie and a "straight coat" yorkie. I have shaved my cotton coat yorkie and he looks okay on his body and looks "so-so" on his face. I'm scared to get too close to his eyes and don't know how to do the ears. My straight coat girl is a squirmy-wormy and she'd only let me cut aorund her feet and clip her nails. After 15 min. she wouldn't let me do any more...I also wasn't sure how to cut her hair anyway! Grooming two dogs is so expensive that I have to start grooming them myself! Any ideas? I have a dog shaver, nail clippers, and regular scissors (the ones with the orange handles from the office supply store). help! Scared mommy...

| I always did my own puppy cuts with just a scissors. I'd cut it all finger depth. Like take the hair between you fingers aand snip close to fingers. Like a beautician does. I preferred that to the shorter clipper cuts. I also made my own grooming arm that attaches to my counter top. I'll see if I can find the thread with the picture. | Oh! thanks for the tip! That sounds like a good way to cut my straight coat pup's hair. She doesn't look good shaved - too skinny! Now if I can find a way for her not to be so squirmy... She's also frightens easily so I don't want to get mad at her for not standing still. I don't want this to be a traumatic experience! thanks again! ps - do you also pull the hair out of her ears?

| No, I do not pull the hair out of the ears, If their ears stand up they should not have a problem with their ears. The grooming arm that I made solved the squirmy problem. They actually stand quite nicely for me. I do have my husband help to hold them still when I am using the clipper on their butts and ears. Cutting the toenails can be another issue. Mine play on concrete, so they keep theirs worn down. But I've heard that either Petco or Petsmart will do a nail trim for $5.00. I do not knows this for a fact. |

| Just wanted to remind you to always use scissors with blunt ends on them so you won't poke or hurt your baby. I use a comb and cut the hair like you would as a beautician. If your one has that has a cotton coat has thick hair and you don't want to shave it, just use thinning scissors to thin the hair a little bit and then cut the rest of the hair like you would with the yorkie with straight hair.
