| Collar question I'm not starting any debates or anything like that. I need to install the invisble fence, my question is, is it ok to leave the collar on her while i'm home? Not a nite or when she's in the house by herself. I've never used a collar at all on her, only a harness when we go for walks. Thank you for help. I would be lost without YT.

| if you are home to watch her i would say no because why chance her getting shocked when she is being supervised.

| I am not sure why you have to install an electric fence but I do want to say that your baby can be harmed by other dogs who do not have the collar and will come on to your property. I know of someone who had this happen. Okay, enough said. And, please do not be offended by my comments. I just wanted to post this as I have first-hand knowledge of the happening.. Will the receiver for the collar be transferable to another harness? It would be ideal to use the break away collar mentioned already if you MUST use a collar. Harnesses are recommended for these little critters, though..good luck with which ever you choose... |

| I think I read it somewhere that those invicible fences will only work with dogs over 7 pounds . . . is your baby more than 7 pounds? |

| There shouldn't be a problem with leaving the collar on the dog while you are there. Ok besides the normal problems with leaving any collar on your dog, it could be strangled or what not, which is something to watch. The only thing I've heard, and I've only heard this, is that if there is a storm things could go wrong with the collar and dogs have been severly shocked while wearing collars during storms, again I don't know this has never happened to me but something I might be concerned about. We use the fence on our big dogs. It works great for us. They have their regular fence that they are in but if we are going to be outside for any length of time we get them out so they can hang out around us. In the beginning we would go in at lunch or something for a short period of time but now we will go in for a little while longer. They have earned a little bit more trust now. The only other thing I can say is that if the dog goes through the fence they are more than likely not going to want to come back through in fear of getting shocked again. I've had it happend both ways. They have gone through and come back and another time I had to drag one of my dogs(without the collar, I took it off) back through because he thought he was going to get shocked. So just watch if he/she does go through its very likely it won't return home.

| i'm not offended in any way. i welcome all comments i just dont want this big whole debate that i've seen go on regarding the fence. i live on a busy street and she's managed to get out of the fence, she bolts out of the door no matter how quick you are with the door, she manages to squeeze through the baby gate blocking the stairs to the door, she got out of her harness (we put in one of the things that go in the ground and have a lead on it) and i need to do this. i will make my fiance test the collar first before it goes on her. i called the company and it can go on a cat collar and i asked about a harness and they said they have harnesses but dont recommend it but they have it. so with that said i'm going to go to the store and get the breakaway collar just to be safe. thank you all for your comments. i would have never thought about getting a breakaway collar. i'm getting one of those and an extra harness just in case.

| wow..this is very interesting. i leave Buttercup's collar on all the time (supervised or not) because we have a lot of dog thieves in my neighborhood. I guess the collar wouldn't stop a thief from stealing... |

| i dont think wearing a collar is dangerous. and i dont think the pups mind. as long as you check your house out and make sure there's nothing for them to get hung on then i wouldnt worry too much about it. and i think having an invisible fence is a responsible idea for some situations. i wouldnt leave them out there unsupervised for any long period of time because of thieves, other dogs, etc. but i've considered it for baxter because sometimes when i take him out to pee he sees someone walking or a bird or something and darts off into the neighbors yard. i think a couple mild shocks is NOTHING compared to having him hit by a car. and i think it'd be ok to leave the collar on him during the day, but not at night. cuz the box on it is kinda bulky and yorkies are small. |

| You are talking about the collar that has a receiver on it correct? Since the collar is for the fence then you only need to put it on when you take her outside. There is no point for her to wear it inside when you are there.

| I am about to get my first Yorkie and I had no idea that some people do not put collars on their puppies. I just assumed my dog would wear a collar and a tag with my info on it. So let me get this straight... some people do not put collars on for fear of the collar getting caught on something and the dog choking? I never thought of that. |

| When she is outside she will not be out there by herself. i'm going to keep the little tomatoe garden fence we have up in the backyard. the whole idea for the invisible fence is for the front yard mainly. when we're home i want to keep the collar on her just in case she gets out the door when it's opened, things like that. i actually talked to them and they do have a harness as well. thanks for the input
