| My yorkie has dry skin on the back of her ears Hey everyone have not been on for a while. I have been so busy with school, work, and coco. I have noticed she had dry skin on her body so I switched to an oatmeal shampoo. Today she was sitting on my lap and I noticed her ears were flaking I rubbed it with my fingers and hair came off with the flakes!! I had asked the vet before and he tested her for fleas, and lice. This is the first I have seem on her ears. Does anybody know what it could be? |

| I've used baby lotion on Bailey before and it helped.

| Yes, Milo has this too! Well when I got Milo, he definatley looked kinda malnutritioned so I assumed it was that. His hair on his nose used to be bald and now it is growing back so I figured maybe his ear is doing something like that too...but it was really dry so I put some calendula ointment on and rubbed it in..well his hair rubbed off with it..?? I just been doing that every couple days..to see if it grows back fresh? Let me know if anyone has this condition figured out. I would like to know too. p.s Milo has a bald tail too and so I put ointment on that too and it seems like it is starting to grow back...?

| romeo had lots of dry skin. i used oatmeal shampoo. no help really. what helped was a supplement called wellness super 5 supplement. you sprinkle it on top of their kibble. romeo luvs the taste and his dry skin is much better. after researching the problem i found the processed food they eat does not have enough nutrients like the omega oils. they sell it at any pet food store that sells wellness brand dog food. |

Luvs Lulu Donating Member | Lex also had some dandruff when I got him. I changed his food and used the oatmeal shampoo and that seemed to work towards clearing it up. Once in a blue I use some Neutrogena T-Gel shampoo on him to strip any build up from his shampoo. His body dandruff is totally gone now we just have to work on his little ear spot. I hope that the tea tree oil works it's $15 for a small two ounce bottle.

| Sounds like it might be LEATHER EAR. It also affects the bridge of the nose. Edie had a case of it on both ears a few years ago. Do a search for it. I believe we have discussed it here on YT in the past. |

| Okay, after I have been reading about leather ear- correct me if I am wrong- but it seem to occur on the inside of the ear, she does not have any blackness on the inside of her ear. He ears on the outside appear dry and if you take the dryness off hair comes with it! above her nose is dry too and she has lately been rubbing it on the floor I dont know if this is just dry skin and I can get something from the vet or if this is something serious? |

| Edie had it on the inside and the outside, along the edge of the ear. I am suspicious of leather ear because it can appear on the bridge of the nose. The hair came off Edie's ear as you describe. Edie got a prescription for a topical ointment called ANIMAX. It took a while to heal. One ear has the hair grow back--the other ear did not grow back but you would not notice it if you didn't know to look for it. |

| OMG that is what Milo has Wow, I am glad there is so much info on YT!! This is great! I do think this is what Milo has, he was bald on his nose and his tail is bald too. Wow! I just hope it is not contagious...it seems it is either a fungus, mites or clogged pores or thyroid prob? I think it is most like fungus or clogged pores since he wasn't well cared for before and he does smell more oily than Lucy but maybe it is because he is a boy too? Thanks all.

| I am glad there is so much info on here too it helps out soooooooo MUCH! Im am just so concerned I called the vet to make her yearly checkup and I briefly mentioned it to the receptionist. I try no to RUN her to the vet for every little thing and it really just looks like dry skin. Then when I told them I was inquiring about what it could be she told me it could be numerous of things and it could be as something little as allergies or a skin infection? to something that could lead to something serious if not taken care of soon. Now I feel like I am a bad mother to my baby for not taking her in as soon as I noticed the dry skin on her nose. I just hope nothing is seriously wrong and it can be cured with just some ointment. |

Luvs Lulu Donating Member | Don't beat yourself up. It's nothing that can kill the dog. At worst it's fungal and you get some ointments. Some of these vets office love to amp things up so you will run there ever second and so they can charge you an arm and a leg for the stuff.

| I think my mum's dog may have this too, except he seems to get it on his bum and stomach. Looks like dandruff but much bigger flakes, with some hair loss??And greasy too?? Would oatmeal shampoo sort it out, cos if so I'll go get some right now!! |

Luvs Lulu Donating Member | I have used the oatmeal shampoo on lex's spot and it didn't make a lick of a difference. I am putting a drop of tea tree oil on it (I have to remember to do it) and I wash him good before I do it. Hoping it works.
