| Is heat too much for yorkies ??? Hello, I have a sweet yorkie named Lily. she is about 6.5 months and weights 6.5-7 lbs. She's been very healthy and she loves to play with everyone. I live in Chicago and recently it has been very hot here. We have our airconditing on all the time because one day she was just so sick we couldn't figure out what was wrong with her. She was vomiting and she had diareah. Once it got cold in the house she was fine. That was about 3 days ago. Today, she was fine in the morning and by 1 pm she got sick again. She vomited and she was very sleepy. She's also been loosing her teeth. I was wondering if the fact that it's hot outside, and that she is loosing her teeth, makes her more sick. i don't think she is unhealthy because this is the first time it happened. She eat good quality puppy food, and once in a while we give her regular food. She had her shots done except Rabbies. So any ideas ?? Thank you |

BANNED FOR NOT MAILING PRODUCTS PURCHASED | It was pretty hot last night and Kloey sleeps in her crate, we have C/Air but I dont want to turn it on yet, so when it was time to go to bed, I put a big freezer bag with ice and a big ice pack and zipped it up and put it in her crate with a cotton pillow sheet on her bed. I hyope this cooled her down, she did not whine or bark last night. |

| I would definitly take a trip to the vet, she sounds like shes sick. Also no yorkies are not good in the heat they are very small and dehidrate fairly quickly and can get heat stroke fast. It does sound like your little one has a bug though. Good luck! |

Yorkie Lover Donating Member | I would never let our girls out in the heat during the day, it is way to hot...but with the AC on, they really should be fine!! Our girls did great last summer and have been fine so far in the heat this summer....I would suggest you take your little one to the vet, something sounds wrong and I don't think it has to do with the heat!!

| I think something besides the heat is going on. I think you need to bring a stool sample and the dog into the vet for a checkup. The signs of heat stroke are rapid breathing, rapid heartbeat, panting, pale or bright red gums - not diarrhea and vomiting. I live in El Paso where days over a 100 are very normal. My dogs stay inside, but I have a thyroid disorder so I am always cold and tend to keep my house in the 80's (at least until my husband comes home and then I put on a jacket). My dogs have never been sick because of the heat. |

| Good, sound like a vet is in order, let us know what they say. The only think I notice when it real hot or cold, is Bailey sleeps a lot more.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I'm in the chicago area and I took Cali for a walk today and she was fine. She does tire faster in the heat. I am glad you are taking her in.
