| Registration Preference... I am interested in knowing which registartion you guys would prefer? I have heard that AKC is supposedly "the best", but then I hear completelly opposite from others. With so many registrations out there now (CKC, ACA, APRI, etc.), which are the "best" or better yet which do you guys prefer, if at all any? ALso is a pup "better quality" (for lack of better words) if he or she is dual registered? As some of you already know, I am on the market for a new pup and I just wanted to know I guess which direction I should head in regarding registration? |

Hi, Princess is AKC, but to me it really wouldn't matter. I think it's only really important if you are going to be Breeding. The most important thing of all is to make sure you have a healthy happy pup. Princess and Mandy are both AKC, but Poncho is not papered at all. We saved him from a backyard breeder. I do know if you want to get the family history of your furbaby it is easy to do with AKC. Best of luck to you.

| Many people prefer the AKC because it is the longest standing registration. Other registries such as the Continental Kennel Club, American Pet Registry and American Canine Association accept 3 photos of your dog as proof that he or she is purebred. They also do not do inspections of breeding facilities like the AKC does and they do not keep as firm of a grasp on paperwork. Many breeders get suspended from the AKC for abuse of animals, lying on paperwork, etc. I posted a thread in the one of the sections with a list of all of the breeders who were suspended from the AKC. Many of them go onto other registries. Another thing that is somewhat "shady" to me is that many of the other registries accept mixed breeds and designer breeds. For example, Labrador/Poodle mixes are accepted as their own breed - that kind of makes me say "hmmm". And to answer your question about dual registered being better, no. Any one of us could go to the CKC, or APRI and register our dog. All we would have to do is swear that they are purebred and take a couple pictures of them.

| I wanted to add that I am not a purebred/paper snob. Stewie is the first papered dog I've owned. I've rescued all the other dogs I've had. I just think that if you're paying for a purebred dog, you should be guaranteed that they're purebred - and AKC is the only registry that really cares whether or not the dog is really what the breeder says they are...

| debate This has been the subject of many debates on here. I am an AKC 'snob". Wouldn't even consider purchasing a dog from another registery. Also, paying the kind of money we all do for our dogs, I would never buy an unpapered one for any reason. It really is a personal preference. |

| I prefer AKC and would expect to pay less for any other registry. However, AKC is only as honest as the people who use it. You could definitely get a dog that wasn't purebred, but still AKC registered. You could also find a nonpapered dog or a dog registered with another registry that was purebred. I've seen unpapered dogs that fit the Yorkie standard more than some that were AKC registered. If you are only interested in pet quality I really don't think it makes a difference if they have papers or not, but don't be fooled into paying more just because they mention a registry. Check out the specific registry and see what they require. If you are just looking for a pet, then judge by the looks of the parents and how well they fit into the yorkie standards. Some register a litter with APRI even when their dogs are registered AKC because they do not have breeding rights (limited registration). If a person is allowed to register AKC then they would. Choosing another registry (unless dual registered with AKC and another) would only happen if they could not register with AKC. |

| I only like akc registration. It been around the longest and is well known and trusted. All registries have their "bad nuts" but I find the akc to have more good qualities than bad. Everyone is entiled to their own opinions but I have to agree with stewies mom.
