| how fast will a shaved yorkie grow back?! My yorkie is now 7 months old and had pretty long hair that I decided to get her shaved down for the summer. I love the beard and the top knot so I asked them to leave everything on her face and head long and shave down her entire body. OMG when I got her back I could NOT stop laughing!! I had no idea how teeny TINY a shaved down 4 pound yorkie looks... I swear when you see her head on, she looks like a floating head! From the side she looks like a cartoon character with a toothpick body and ginormous lion head! She is acting insecure too and not like her usual self and I miss the way she used to look... how fast or how long will it take for her to start looking normal and not like a cartoon freak?! |

| hair growth It really depends on your pups own hair and how fast it grows. But she'll probably grow out enough in the next couple of months to be cute and not look so skinny. I know what your talking about though. The last time I took Petey to the groomer was in FeB. He was pretty long, and his cotton coat makes him look bigger then he is. They cut it short on the body and he looked like he lost 5 pounds. I didn't really like it, he grew out within about 6 weeks. I've had use the clippers on him twice since then, but I only cut it down to about an inch long. Just give your baby some extra loving and belly rubs, she'll be feeling like her old self in no time. | I know what you mean She may look funny and act differently but it will grow on you quickly and she will love being light and cool. My Cali does. I know what you mean about the big head on the little body. My Cali is just shy of 3lb at 4 months. |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Cali was shaved on her chestand belly for surgery and they took all her long hair off of it. It has grown about 1 1/2 inches in about 3 months time.

| Cali is cute! I have the groomer clip down Loki's head too so we don't have that problem. Sorry I can't answer your question - I keep him short. He does grow about 1 inch a month though - I know because I keep taking him in to get him cut shorter and it all grows back. He has a super thick coat so he gets too hot even if it's 2 inches long.

| I keep my pup short too -- only because it's easier. My vet said - we all have it wrong. He said our dogs get hotter with short hair. He said their long hair insulates them against the heat just as it does against the cold. With long hair, he said the sun and heat don't penetrate to their body as easily - and they actually stay cooler. (He was talking about the hair around their bodies - not necessarily the real long hair that we sometimes let them grow.) I know this is hard for us to believe....but we're people, not dogs. I think your dogs are all cute. Carol Jean |

I remember after Gus's accident they had to shave him down all around his mid section. He looked so bad! I had to shave the back end of him. But left his neck and face alone. Poor little guy. He looked like a tiny lion. It seemed like it took forever to grow back. It's still not as long as it was before the accident. But then I keep trimming it. I grew out so uneven. I find myself trimming the longer strands to keep it even with the rest. We are almost there and it will be a year next week.

She is probably feeling insecure due to the lack of hair and feeling the air on her skin more than before. I am sure she will get use it in no time, but you could maybe put a light shirt on her just so she doesn't feel quite so naked. | |

| thank you! will be patient! Thank you to all who have replied! I'm just freaked out because I am a little scared of my yorkie, because I had no idea her body was so tiny and fragile (I'm feeding her more since her being shaved down!) Also, I had no idea that the yorkie coat, as long as it's not too long, actually insulates the body from both cold and heat (I noticed that when I pick her up her body is noticeably hotter now)... next time I'm getting her coat trimmed not shaved off! Thank you for the pictures as well, I feel better knowing others have gone through this too, but Cali looks so cute! My baby's hair on her body is shaved a little closer and she has more of an adult face with lots of hair on her face and head that is maybe medium length. She was shaved down pretty close so I think this might take at least all summer to grow out, but hopefully in one month she will not look so strange! |
