| Teeth Cleaning I am still new to this site..don't post much here. I am loved by a Yorkie...Tootsie. She is the sweetest little baby! She is now 4 -1/2 years old...weighing in at a little over 6 pounds...never had her teeth cleaned until today. She gets checked by the Vet each year..and we have been very lucky that she has not had any problems with her teeth! Even the Vet has always been amazed! The past month or so I did start to smell her "dog breath" and on her latest visit the Vet took a look and said she has Gingivitis so a cleaning is now in order. She didn't see any teeth that will be to be removed..that is good thing! But this will be Tootsie's 2nd time under anesthesia..the first being when she was spayed...at the age of 11 months. I know we will be sent home with a finger brush and toothpaste...and I know Tootsie will be her usual good little soul...take it in stride. She always does. I just hope she will be okay later today when I pick her up...and that the doggie "cocktail" wears off soon. Anyone have any thoughts or what I should expect?? Rita & Tootsie |

| Welcome to YT . . . Can't help you with your question but am sure some will. I religiously brush Tiger's teeth every night . . .I wonder if he will be spared getting his teeth cleaned |

| You know the one good thing about taking these little guys to the vet is that since they are so little everyone falls in love with them and gives them so much attention. When I went to pick up Reagan from being spayed the lady behind the desk had her wrapped up in a baby blanket holding her in her lap loving on her. It made me fell good about the whole thing. What was funny though is they told me to just leave her alone, put her in a dark cool place and just let her sleep. So they told me to leave her alone and they've got her in their laps loving on her....lol Anyway welcome to YT and I hope everything goes well, I'm sure it will.

| When Kobe had his teeth cleaned he looked so pathetic when he came home. His poor fur on his face was all matted down and he one eye that was bothering him. The vet said they put ointment in it and he must of had a reaction. I think he felt worse after his teeth cleaning versus his neuter. |

| Kramer I got Kramer's teeth cleaned once a year and at 9 years old he had all his teeth and they were in good shape. Kramer also looked pretty matted and messy when I would pick him up and would be sleepy the rest of the day but the next day he would always be back to his normal self. He seemed to suffer more from his shots than from the teeth cleanings. |

| Tootsie came through her teeth cleaning great! When I picked her up yesterday the hair on her face was smushed down...and her little eyes were like slits...she was just so sleepy! She wanted to walk around outside when we got home...she tried to do that, but all she could do was stand there. Kind of made me laugh though..she reminded me of a drunk...trying to navigate her way... Finally I picked her up and carried her in. She fell asleep in my arms...oh how cute that was....and then every once in awhile she would snore...how funny that was! Most of the evening she was out of it, but she did eat a little food and finally she peed outside...but first she peed on me as she was sleeping. Poor baby! You are all right....she has come back to herself this morning...YIPPEE!! Just cuddling with her last evening was something I will never forget...it was just too precious. I held her in my arms like I did when my kids were babies...excpet this baby had tons of hair! I saw on her paperwork they found a lose tooth on the upper right...they think it was a baby tooth! Imagine that at 4 years old! And they also gave her a fluoride treatment...now that is new to me! I didn't know they did that for dogs...kids yes. Has anyone ever heard of that...and the baby tooth still there after all this time? Thanks for all you stories and sharing them with me. Rita and clean teeth...Tootsie |

| Question about cleaning... Ok...as you all know.....I am learning.....I have a question.... If you start out when the puppy is young, brushing their teeth, and how often brush????? do you still have to take them to the doctor for teeth cleaning??????and put them under anthetisia???? Thanks Shirley |

| With Tootsie I was very lucky...and I don't brush her teeth...my fault for not starting at an early age. In answer to your question.....just have the Vet check the teeth when you see him/her. They will tell you if your baby needs a teeth cleaning. I have heard Yorkies seem to be prone to losing their teeth early and they get a terrible build up of tartar faster than other breeds...hence the check-up to see what is going on. But as I said...I have been very lucky with Tootsie...she has always had great teeth...no problems ever. And yesterday when she had her teeth cleaned the Vet was surprised that all she had was Gingivitis and it was easy to clean up. Tootsie's paperwork stated she was under for about 20 minutes. That's not too bad I guess. You are doing the right thing by brushing the teeth now and helping to keep away the dog breath, bad teeth, etc. BRAVO for you!

| My Rocky who is 4 1/2 years old had his teeth cleaned yesterday. I picked him up expecting him to be groggy for awhile... nope.... you wouldn't even know he had anything done to him...!!! This was the second time he's had his teeth cleaned... He seems to be prone to plaque buildup...
