| Fussy yorkies during grooming/bath time... Is it just our two pups, or is anyone else's as fussy? We have to fight with one dog during a bath, he tries to climb out of his bath bucket and yaps like no other (probably sounds like we're physically beating the guy to our neighbors)...both fight and fuss during combing every night...both fuss when being blow dried...both will not lay down/stay put as we put ear cleaning solution...both kick and scream during nail trims...both fuss when we clean their eye boogies...it's an endless 'chore' when it comes to bath and maintence time!! Any tips on decreasing/stopping this? |

| It gets better. Trust me, give a bath 2 times a week, then move to once a week, thats what I did. Both my babies still put up a lil bit of a fight, but not nearly as bad as the beginning. They just try to sneak out of the tub as soonn as Im grabbing for the shampoo / conditioner and I usually have to hold them by their chest, as they stand on their hind legs to bathe them....lol I still haven't mastered the blow dryer. Guess I gotta get them used to the sound. Good Luck!!

I always give mine a special treat while grooming if they behave. Peanut butter I never give it to them unless it is grooming time. For the most part Remmy was terrible to groom...he would snap at the clippers. I just give him a firm "no" and he was great the rest of the time he stayed still. Chance is still a pup and I try to keep him grooming time to a min. I bath him one day and cut his hair and nails and ect another. As not to do to much at one time. Brushing we do right before bedtime and I ususally give him something to chew on as I brush. Remmy is the whinner at bath time. He whines like a big baby. Chance has never made a sound when I bath him and he stays so still. With Remmy I was making the mistake of bathing him in my bathtub. That gave him to much room to move around and so I was like chasing him to stay still. I started to bath him in the sink and that has made a world of difference because he can't move. Not enough room. | |

| Mine are all pretty good for bathing, brushing and nail clipping. I just talk to them. I try not to stop brushing or nail clipping when they want to, but also try to stop when they are being good (even if I may not be finished). It takes patience and time, but it is very much like working with a spoiled child. If they manage to wiggle free than I retrieve them I don't just say oh well I guess you're done. If they think that by escaping or whining you are going to stop then they will continue to do it. I do bathe in the sink so I have a lot of control. |

| Ours sit quietly for everything now, but they sure didn't when they were pups. I think it just takes time and repetition. I always rewarded them with a treat as soon as I was done. Now when Petey sees me bath one of the others, he gets excited and can't wait for his turn. We use the kitchen sink with warm water for bath, and a grooming table with an arm for everything else. That way you can make sure they stay put while your working on them. We do bath every Saturday during warm weather, and every two weeks in winter. Mine finally got used to the dryer also, they just sit there and let me do everything. The only thing Petey gives me trouble with is his back nails, I can do the front ones fine, but he pulls his back feet away when I try to cut. We got most of our grooming tools/table from Petedge.com. Good luck on your grooming, don't give up it gets easier. Here is a pic of Petey just sitting on the table waiting.

| Okay I am going to sound like a complete nut but I sing to Georgie and keep telling him he is such a good boy. I know I know I don't have any kids so he is my child It seems to work though when I am not doing it he gets ancy, but as soon as I say good boy George in a calm voice he relaxes. I also just continue to give him a bath once a week, so he has gotten used to it. Good luck it will get better I am sure.

| Mine are getting pretty good but I used to have to be completely sneaky gathering my bathing stuff and getting the water temp right or Brandy would figure out what was going on and head for the hills.

| thanks everyone! I have more hope that it will get better and it's good to know that our puppies are not alone when it comes to being fussy. Petey is such a sweetie, sitting on the table waiting. I hope ours will get there some day. |

| Do I feel lucky! Tootsie never gives me a hard time...EVER! She loves her bath and blow dry...and brushing seems to relax her. Maybe it is because ever since we had her..the very first day I got her used to the brushes. She doesn't curl her lips up, growl or even try to bite. I am truly blessed! Even when she is at the kennel they tell me she is good while being brushed and bathed. Rita & Tootsie |
