| dying a yorkie's hair I recently read a thread about people dying their yorkie's hair for a show and was wondering, isn't that kinda cruel? I mean if you use regular hair dye for humans on a dog, woulden't that dry out the skin and hair? And the smell from hair dye is really strong and dogs have a stronger sense of smell so coulden't that damage or hurt their sense of smell?? In addition, how could you rinse the hair dye out, you dog does not know when to close his eyes and it would be painful and could damage their eyes. All in all, dying a yorkie's hair seems really cruel and unnecessary. I know of some people dying their poodles, but they always used koolaid and never any real hair dye. What are some your opinions on dying a yorkie's hair, or am I wrong about this???

| I've heard about special "dyes" for dogs - more of a color correction than a dye - and as far as I know, they dont work the same way as the dyes for human hair. I don't know what these people were using, but I can't imagine using hair dye for people on a dog! But.. to each his own I suppose....

| Using a dye on their hair is going too far for me. Even worse, I saw a Chihuahua with actual pierced ears!! |

| I think it's nuts. If you buy/adopt a particular dog, I'd assume it's because you like the dog's coloring and looks so why change it? All dogs have natural beauty and I'd hate to think folks are making them artificial. |

| I don't think people are trying to change the color of their dog. Rather they are trying to cover up imperfections for show. I've heard of people using permanent markers to cover up light spots on dogs noses for show. Lots of stuff is done for show that is not allowed but people do it anyway.

| When i was 16 i use to have pink stands in my hair...and i must admit...so did my Yorkie....it wasnt a dye that stank, or burnt, i used it for years....i dont know why i did it to be honest...but she looked trendy...and i use to put it up in a bow....it never botherd Saphron, she use to love the brush, the bath, and the dry time....i would not do anything that caused a dog to stress....but some people do go over the top....i use to take her to the vet and he never said that it was cruel....he just use to say that she looked diffrent....some yorkies dont like having a bow in....so some people may say thats cruel, as i wear i think it looks nice, but i would not put one in if my dog got stressed out by it....bella hates being combed...to me that is cruel cause she gets so worked up....so i dont really know if it is
