Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | if Tiffany has two sets of k-9 teeth (adult plus baby) at teh time of her spay then yes, i'd tell the vet to pull them. they probably won't fall out on her own. all other teeth usually fall out by themself |

| Lola got spayed today and had 18 baby teeth removed. It is important to get them out. I think it has something to do with the alignment of their bite.

Hey, what is the importance of getting her spayed? How can I tell if she might have already been spayed? | |

| When Topher went in to get neutered almost two weeks ago, I asked the vet to check his teeth and to remove the baby teeth that hadn't fallen out yet. He had already lost quite a few baby teeth, but I knew he had some 'doubles'..I just wasn't sure how many. She ended up removing three baby teeth and to her surprise, one of the teeth had a root that was TWO INCHES LONG!! She said that in all her years of practice, she had never seen such a thing. It's a good thing that I didn't wait for the tooth to fall out, 'cause it never would have come out on it's own. She said that we probably would have ended up with loads of problems down the road. As it was, she said that there was lots of 'stuff' stuck between the teeth already (and I clean Topher's teeth regularly). I would suggest having the baby teeth pulled if the adult teeth have already come in and the teeth are crowded. Having it done while the pup is being spayed or neutered is convenient as the pup is already under anaesthesia anyway. I wouldn't have liked Topher to have to go through another separate 'surgery' to deal with the teeth. |

| You should probably be able to see a scar on her lower belly (lengthwise). Importance of getting her spayed (if you don't plan on breeding) Females tend to be better pets if they do not experience oestrus every six-to-nine months. Heat cycles bring hormonal changes that can lead to personality changes. Repeated heat cycles subject the reproductive system to uterine and mammary cancers and uterine infections. Some bitches experience false pregnancies that can be a bother to deal with and uterine infections that can be fatal. The heat is messy. You have to be very careful to prevent unwanted pregnancies. Dogs and bitches do not get fat simply as a result of sterilization surgery. Like other mammals, they gain weight if they eat too much and exercise too little or are genetically programmed to be hefty. Weight gain that seems to follow spay or neuter surgery is most likely a result of continuing to feed a high energy diet to a dog that is reducing his need for energy as he reaches his adult size. Excess energy in the food becomes excess fat on the body. Link to removing baby teeth, if not lost http://lowchensaustralia.com/health/teeth.htm |

| I have he same problem with Lottie , when she she went to get spayed she had baby and adult canines present uppper and lower and I asked for them to be removed at the same time, but my vet said he had not made time for this in his surgery time and that to leave them for now and look at them again in a few weeks. Well what do you know now they need out! Lottie will need to go in again and have them done! I keep putting it off as I dont really want her to have another anaesthetic but I know it will need to be done soon!

| If they retain thier baby teeth they have to be pulled. You can have your vet look before their spay/neuter and have him pull any retained ones then. Chachi and Jewels both had 4 pulled at their spay/neuter.

| I haven't seen it mentioned yet, but besides throwing the bite off, the teeth will hold particles of food and can cause tooth decay faster and could cause infection. It's best to have the baby teeth removed.
