| Your Advice & opinions needed on pro & con sami is due for his summer cut, but I was thinking about letting sami's hair grow out long, and I was wondering how they do in the summer months with long hair? can they handle the heat ok? Do you have any problems keeping them cool? and with long coats what type of grooming cuts needed? like do you have only their paws trimmed, the belly, sanitary cut, any and all feed back will be greatly appreciated! as your input will help me determine what would be best for him & myself.. because |

| In my personal opinion, I think its a bad idea to keep the babies in long hair in the summer unless you're planning to show them. It's uncomfortable to play in, it's too hot in the summer for that and they don't enjoy it, its mostly for our enjoyment. As much as I love Coco in her longer hair, I decided it would be selfish of me to keep her in that cut in 100 degree weather, just so I can talk about how beautiful her hair is. She loves her shorter cut, it's cooler, no more tangles and she loves it. I think if you're not showing your baby, do her a favor and cut it so she can stay cool. JMHO

| I keep mine in long coats year round and living in El Paso 100 degree days are quite the norm here. Of course, mine are inside most of the day and we take walks in the morning and evening. Long coats require daily brushing, but just a few minutes. I'm really lucky that none of mine tangle or get matts. If yours does, then short is definitely easier on you and them. I just trim the ears, feet, and the stomach on my boy. I really prefer the way Yorkies look in long coats, but my husband and my girls think they look cuter cut short. So I guess it is all a matter of opinion. |

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | hahahah - I liked the way you ended your post I don't KNOW EITHER !! I was going to cut Chanel way down....didn't do it. I live in Texas and it's already hot. The heat doesn't seem to bother mine because they're inside so much. When I'm out - they are too... and love being in the yard...but if it's too hot - we don't stay out long. Long hair IS more work - but I find more work in the FALL ...because of the leaves on the ground...THEN I see stuff in their hair and tracked in my house more ...using the Ice on ice helps when brushing out sticks and leaves. I do light trims myself - Ears..under feet - around feet and their hineys and tummies... on really hot days - Chanel LOVES to play in the hose lol - she knows how to enjoy hot weather ! |

| I agree The long coat is just to hot for them in the summer unless they stay indoors in the air conditioning all the time. I love to take mine out boating, camping, and walking so, long hair is just out of the question for mine. It also gives me a nice break from combing. I think they look so little and cute in their summer cuts. |

| Here is Coco's summer cut. Her body isn't super short like a puppy cut, but its not hanging below her sides and her below like it was before. Her face I didn't touch too much. I wanted her to look like a girl, so I kept most of her facial hair.

Villette your babies are so beautiful! I live in Paradise ca right now and the weather is usually in the high three digits and Im in the process of selling my home and relocating To Washington, home of fasteddie & Yoda and maybe a few more WA Ytalkers anyone? And I was told the summer there is in the two digits? so Maybe I will get his summer cut, since the next few weeks or months I will be devoting a lot of time to packing! and moving so maybe once I have settled in, I will let him grow long, Its just all these babies that have long hair are so beautiful and I guess you can say Im curious to see how my baby boy would look? just to see him look all grownup! although he is 15 mo, he looks like a baby which I love! So thank you all with your input , but please keep your opinions coming Im sure someone might be contemplating the same question, and would be Soo helpful learning the pro & con on short hair vs long | |

| I've given Snickers and Baxter summer cuts since I've gotten them. I bathe them more in the summer, and can just towel dry them and send them on their way. They love it! I'm sure they feel more comfortable in shorter hair, and less grooming time means more play time.

| We keep Jewels hair long and it has to be brushed daily. We also take her to the groomer once a month. That was at our groomers recommendation. When we used to go longer than that and not brush her everyday she matted. The shorter cuts are definitely alot easier to manage but I like the long hair and it is worth it to me.

| hmmm... how about passing some of that warm weather over here, its been cold and rainy for such a long time, I would love to have warm and sunny days. I keep mine in their long coat and they stay inside most of the time. When they are outside they are playing in the water to keep cool. It is all a matter of preference and location. It does not ever get 100 degrees here, if it did, I would keep them in a short summer cut.

| Nikko has a cotton coat so I like to keep it short because it is easier to maintain. In the winter I keep it long because I feel sorry for him and I don't want him to feel cold. As soon as the weather warms up, though, I go right for the puppy cut. He seems more comfortable and I think it is a bit more hygienic. These little guys are so cute you can't really mess them up, I think they look cute either way!!
