| Gus once ate a grape that Cherish (my niece) dropped on the floor. I was so upset being that he is so tiny. But he was just fine. I think they have to eat alot to get sick.

| From the INTERNET; Although the minimum lethal dosage is not known, grapes and raisins can be toxic to dogs when ingested in large quantities. The symptoms are gastrointestinal signs including vomiting and diarrhea, and then signs of kidney failure with an onset of severe kidney signs starting about 24 hours after ingestion. The amount of grapes eaten varied between 9 oz. and 2 lbs., which worked out to be between 0.41 and 1.1 oz/kg of body weight. It has been reported that two dogs died directly from the toxicity, three were euthanized due to poor response to treatment and five dogs lived. Due to the severity of the signs and the potential for death, the veterinarians at the National Animal Poison Control Center (NAPCC) advocate aggressive treatment for any dog believed to have ingested excessive amounts of grapes or raisins, including inducing vomiting, stomach pumping and administration of activated charcoal, followed by intravenous fluid therapy for at least 48 hours or as indicated based on the results of blood tests for kidney damage. |

| Yes, they are really dangerous and as few as 1 grape per lb can do serious damage to your dog. Please don't feed your dog grapes and raisins are worse. Accidents happen, but why feed anything with even a potential to cause harm to your dog? Just because you don't see immediate damage does not mean it is not occuring. |

| Eating grapes often can affect your pup's kidneys. But, eating an occasional grape won't. My pup ate nearly a whole (small) bowl of grapes - that I had out for my bird - when he was a pup. But, because I know grapes aren't good for dogs, this hasn't happened again. I can't say that he hasn't had an occasional grape since then because occasionally my bird tosses one out of the cage -- and guess who's there to grab it up!!! I suppose he is getting a grape (or part of a grape) once a week or so.... Carol Jean |

Something that does not bother your pup may very well cause damage to someone elses. And you really don't know (if your dog is indeed eating grapes) if you are damaging his kidneys or not. | |
