| Help I just spent twenty minutes writing, and when I tried to post it didn't work, so here it goes agian. Simon, my new Yorkie is having problems. The problem is Daisy (Mini Schnauzer) and Cosmo (Shih Tzu) are really mean to him. Simon and Jersey (both Yorkies) get along fine together, Jersey gets along great with Daisy and Cosmo, but Daisy and Cosmo try to hurt Simon every chance they get. they went after him through the gate. I don't get it. They all play, eat and sleep together...yet the two non-Yorkies don't like Simon. Daisy and Cosmo are really big compared to Jersey and Simon, I'm scared they'll hurt him really bad. I can't keep him in our bedroom forever... Please give me some ideas, what can I do?

| What a difficult situation. Are they jealous? Try playing with them all together and reward the others for playing nicely. Take the others for a big walk and tire them out first before having them all together.Do they steal toys or is it actual fighting and biting? How does Simon react? Hopefully the others will have some more ideas.

| Sorry to hear you're having troubles with your furbabies getting along. When you say mean can you give some examples?? I guess what I'm asking is are you sure it's just not normal dog behavior?? My 20 lb. bichon/poodle mix plays rough with my tiny shih tzu sometimes but she loves it and keeps going back for more!! Sometimes I shout at them to stop and and they stop and look at me like I'm a lunatic then go right back to wrasslin! Give some examples of the behaviors you're seeing maybe people can comment more specifically. Good Luck!!! |

| Have you tried introducing to just one of them at a time. Maybe if it's just one on one they will do OK. Also if it is just one, you will be better able to see just what is going on. If the older go goes after Simon, you have to play the roll of pack leader and use your hand like a mouth to nip at the dogs shoulder, like the pack leader would do. Most importantly, you have to remain calm, if you are nervouse or excited, they will pick up on that energy. When you first put them together, make the older dog keep his/her distance, by acting ads pack leader, until they are calm, and then you can let them do the sniffing thing. |

| Cosmo did break the skin on Simon's ear, but it didn't bleed it was more like a small scratch. Daisy picked Simon up by the throat and kinda threw him. I have tried Daisy and Cosmo one at time with Simon and it didn't work, I was in the floor with them and everything will be fine at first and within a few seconds they have him on his back and he cries. They aren't playing like they do with Jersey and each other...Daisy and Jersey sound like they are fighting to kill but they are just playing...nobody has ever been hurt. Same with Cosmo, he'll chase Jersey all over the house biting (just playing) her stubby tail but he has never hurt her. We've tried hubby holding Simon and I'll hold Daisy or Cosmo, let them sniff each other and be near one another without actually touching...Daisy and Cosmo will act perfect until we let our guard down for a second and they will lunge at the pup and growl Another thing that happened last night, Daisy snapped at my husband when he picked her up for her bath. I don't understand what's wrong with her, it can't just be the new pup because we haven't had Cosmo that long and she accepted him right away. I am really upset, I've had dogs all my life and my husband and I have never been without several dogs, we've never had a problem this bad. Daisy gets a lot of exercise, I have two sons who take her out to play everyday...she gets tons of attention. Cosmo doesn't get as much outdoor exercise as he needs and is a little overweight but he does play inside. I don't want Simon to get hurt, and I don't want Daisy and Cosmo to be unhappy. Both Daisy and Cosmo had an appointment with the vet not long ago, everything was okay with both of them.
