| How are you training your puppy at the present? Outdoors or puppy pads? What are you doing and what methods have you tried to this point that don't seem to be working?

| what have you been doing prior to the puppy classes 3 or 4 weeks ago for housebreaking? have you tried crate training? are you indoor training? outdoor training? do you keep her in a confined, puppy proof area when you're gone? do you give her lots of treats and praises when she goes in the right spots? do you take her frequently to the proper area to potty? i think it's unrealistic for a dog of any age to be housebroken within 3-4 weeks. it takes lots of time, effort and patience and even then it can take months of consistent diligence. so long as you keep up with the program she'll get it eventually. as for biting and chewing... i hate to say this, but even after the baby teeth are gone, their gums can still be sore from the adult teeth growing in. and from what i understand, the chewing phase can last clear until 2 years old. so while she's in this phase of her life, give her a big NO when you catch her chewing on things she's not suppose to. if you're not around, leave her either in her crate, or confined to a puppy proof room or a xpen with tile flooring with potty pads. good luck! |

| Yorkies are not the easiest breed to pottytrain, it takes a LOT of patients and time. Your baby is 6 months, thats really still a baby, at 1 year they really still are babies. Some yorkies are easier then others. My Chelsey was a breeze to potty train, Chanel on the other hand will go on the box when it suits her or wen she thinks about it, they are both 1 year, just shows you that they are all different.

| My Yorkie is almost 8 months old and I just noticed last week that he hasn't had an oopsie recently! He was 5 1/2 months old when I got him so I guess it took 2 months. I took him out a lot in the beginning but I noticed he wouldn't go when I was out there -- he wanted to play! So I'd take him outside, place him in the same spot and say Go Potty and then go back in and watch from the window. If he didn't go in about 10 minutes, I'd let him back in and try again in a little bit. If he did go, I'd go out and praise him to high heaven. If I caught him in the act inside, I'd say a dramatic OH NO! and scoop him up and take him outside. I also kept a puppy pad right next to the door for the times when he had to go but I didn't let him out in time. At first, I'd wipe up a little wee with the puppy pad and put it back next to the door so it had his scent and he made the connection. He got the idea really quickly. As he developed more control and I got to know his habits, he didn't need the puppy pad anymore. It REALLY helps if you have another dog, though. Bobby watched the others troop out, do their business and come back in and it helped him make the connection. Keep playtime really separate, if you can. When I go outside with them, they know it's playtime. Good luck! Julie |

| My pup is 6 months too and we have good days and then we have days like today with lots of accidents. What makes the difference? Not sure. Just persevere with the praise etc. I do notice that my wee girl doesn't like to go outside when the grass is wet--raining, or when the grass is really long. Just keep up the praise for doing well. They will get it eventually. I am going to clean my carpets soon in case the scent from the accidents is encouraging her to go inside-despite using special products. We have no accidents in the puppy pen or on my bed. I get frustrated too,but i am sure we will get there eventually.

| It doesn't sound like you are doing any actual training, it seems you are taking her to puppy class and hoping for the best. Crate train her to housebreak her, that's the easiest way. Pupply class can't train her to be housebroken. When she bites something you don't want her biting just stop her. Train her not to do it.

| Potty training will take a lot of patience on your part. And it will not happen overnight. Whatever method you choose to use to train your pup will have to be stuck to with no exceptions. Never leave the pup unattended or with free roam of the house. Crate training is a very good way to train. Most dogs won't go potty where they sleep. Praise for good behavior and scolding for bad behavior go a long way in this process. But like I said, whatever method you choose, you have to be persistent. Your pup will learn...it just takes time. It can be very frustrating as well, but just take a deep breath and remember that this a baby you are dealing with and just like any baby, they learn by repetition. Good luck!
