| Here is what they said.... Here was my earlier post......I need all my fellow YT'ers to reassure me. I went out of town this weekend with my sister-in-law and we went to her nieces baby shower. The shower was held at her friends house not hers. Anyways long story short we went there and I was standing out on the deck and happened to look over the edge and there were 2 dogs outside. They were large dogs (at least 100lbs each) in it looked like a 6x6 area. I noticed the dogs were very matted and dirty and one had no hair on it's tail (look like the fleas were eating them both up). I honestly felt like I was watching an episode of animal precinct on Animal Planet. I have never ever seen dogs that looked that neglected. The kicker was when I saw pee on the ground and the area was so small one of the dogs had no choice but to lay in it. I told my sister-in-law (who is a dog lover as well) to look to make sure I wasn't seeing things, and she agreed it was very bad. I went down to talk to the dogs and started to cry, it was then I knew I had to do something. Well not only did I confront the owner of the dogs, but as soon as I got home today I called the humane society in their area to report them. Please reassure me that it was the right thing to do. In my heart I knew I had too, but I feel bad that an officer was being sent to their house they have a son who is under 10. However I would have felt even worse if I didn't do anything. Thanks Now here is what I found out......[/COLOR] Animal control went over there and the report from them is simply this "THE DOGS HAVE ADEQUATE FOOD AND SHELTER." I put that in bold because I felt like screaming when I heard that. I got the officers name what else can I do to help these poor dogs? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again

| I just sent an email to Virginia voters for animal welfare (the state I was visiting). I asked that someone call me so I can discuss the neglect further. I am hoping something positive will come out of this. Thanks

| I know the frustration you are feeling. Animal Control laws can be very lax in some VA counties..if they a shelter and water/food..that is all they require..fleas, grooming, no room to move is on important to them. |

Thanks I told my brother I am sure if they lived here and their dogs looked like that they would be in more trouble. I sent an email to Virginia voters for animal welfare and asked them is food and shelter is the only important thing to the State of Virginia reagrding animals? Sorry not trying to knock Virginia I am just trying to get someone's attention that will do something for these dogs.

| You did do the right thing... But sometimes that is just not enough. What did the dog owners say about the dogs when you confronted them about the situation they were in. That is a shame really...what people will do to be able to say "we have a dog"...

| i think you did the right thing. but dont the officers care if the dogs are getting exercise, attention, or love? i mean they always say all a dog needs is water, food, shelter, and love, whatever happened to the love part?
