| Need Help Okay so we were surfing around yorkietalk when my sister accidently spilled a cup of water on my labtop I'm freaking out here! Has anyone ever had this happen to them? IF so what should I do? Will I have to just buy a whole new one? What about my files? Oh geez there's just too many thoughts running through my head right now. Just to think I was thinking about backing up all files earlier today.

| My son said that if you haven't tried turning it on....don't! Take off whatever you can take off to let it dry out for a couple of days. |

| If the water didn't short something out on the computer before you turned it off, it should be okay after a few days of drying. I've actually read something about how you can take old computer parts that aren't working well, run them through the DISHWASHER, let them dry completely, and they'll be good as new. Anyway, I agree with the others - just let it sit and dry really well, and it may be ok.

| I've let "Keyboards" dry before and they went back to working normally. I also used the hair dryer on another keyboard to help it dry. NOW - if I ever spill anything on my keyboard --- I turn it upside down immediately..... and then get to work trying to dry it..... However - if you had cream or sugar in your coffee - you may have a somewhat more serious problem. Sugar is sticky --- Your problem should be reminding all of us to backup once in a while. | Well you'll all be happy to know that I'm sitting here typing to ya'll from my labtop. I'm so happy everything is working properly!!!! Thank you for all your help as far as what to do to fix the problem. So anyways nothing was damaged but it does teach me a valuable lesson here which is to make sure we do a back up of all files once a month. For all of you that have read my post I have a website that I'm just starting. This is all my personal work. www.freewebs.com/gleim516

| The first thing you should do is turn it off, but then how are you going to read this? Hmmm... htne you should turn it upside down so the water can drain out the same way it got in,. Water is not usually catastrophic if you turn it off immediately to prevent short circuts, which I'm not sure if you have done or not. The water will drain and dry out and all will be fine, soda pop, coffee with sugar, those will leavve behind residue and cause serious lon term problems. So, TURN IT OFF and turn it OVER!! You can take the keyboard off, htat should help it dry out.

| Oh I just saw that this was an old post from a couple days ago, someone bumped it back to the top. Hopefully no damage was done and things are back to normal.
