| New Member who needs help.... Hello Everybody. My name is Krystal and I am new here. I am actually still trying to figure out how to use all the options on this site. But, I will get the hang of it. I have a yorkie baby boy named Sebastian, he is four months old. I will post some pictures as soon as I figure that out too!! Sebastian is my first dog ever and my main concern is what should I feed him. I have heard a MILLION things. He eats anything I give him, but I just want to be sure I am feeding him a proper diet. Right now, I am experiencing with Ceasar puppy food for dinner and I leave Eukanuba small breed hard food for him during the day. I will admit, I have been bouncing around on different types of food. ( I know that is a horrible thing to do). I have tried the Beneful hard and the new meals that they have out now. Like I said before, he will eat anything.. I have heard about Royal Canine, Chicken soup for the puppy lovers soul (I think that is what's called), and my mind escapes me on the others. But I welcome any suggestions.. I am also having the HARDEST time potty training him. I work all day so he has free roam of the kitchen and he does really well on the pads when he is home by himself. As soon as I get home and I let him out, he doesn't understand that he needs to go back to the kitchen when he needs to go potty. I take him to it every hour or so but he just sits on it and looks at me. My ultimate goal is to always have him go on the pads because of where I stay. Any suggestions on this will be grateful as well. Thanks,

| Hi and Welcome! Congrats on your new baby. You will be a pro at all the buttons on here in no time at all!!! They just added a bunch of new things so we are all on an even playing field almost! As far as food goes, as long as you pick a high quality food you should do well. Alot of people have very strong opinions on food (certain types). My dogs have been eating Royal Canin puppy 33, which they love because it has tiny morsels. I can't seem to get them to eat anything that has bigger pieces. I also used to give them Cesar's at night, but have been made aware that it's not so good for them. We are actually better off sticking with the dry food for their teeth anyway. The dry food helps clean their teeth, the wet food promotes tooth decay. I'm sure you will choose what's best for your baby!

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Welcome! This is a great site. As far as food i am no help, Cali will only eat chicken and hamburger and a little cesar's. I would try one of the better foods like Royal Canin,Innova Merricks etc. As far as pad training, this is what worked for me, I had Cali in a playpen and she had a bed at one end and a wee wee pad at the other, she trained real quick using this method. But I am also home most of the time with her. It takes time for them to get trained. Others will have other methods that worked for them.

| Hi Welcome, you will love this site, its great once you find your feet....when i take my 2 babies out side, i tell them "Hurry up" they know what i want them to do....Mac has just turned ten weeks and he goes the loo inside and out, he has not yet masterd it...but he is getting there...when i see him wanting to go the loo...i just pick him up, not saying anything, put him outside, and say "hurry up", he knows that hurry means, i must wee here... My little girl Bella has got it...she was easy to do...but i guess it is hard if you are not there....just pick the pup up as the dogs goes to do it...but dont say anything, and give a command, it will soon get the hang of it..

| Welcome to YT I am pretty new here too. But it didnt take long to learn my way around. I like it here and I think you will too. so Welcome to YT. I feed kizzy Eukanuba only so far since thats what she was on when I got her. But thinking of changing it this weekend because I cant seem to find it here anywhere except pet depot. I was thinking of trying Iams. I dont know if anyone else here uses that or not. Good luck with your puppy. Kizzy is my first Yorkie puppy and she just turned 3 months old Wednesday, so I'm learning as I go with her also. No training tips from me. I am trying to train her to go outside. so far so good but not great yet. Welcome again.

| I didn't have any luck at all training Rowdy (14 months) to pee pads, so I didn't even try with Rexy (3 1/2 months). Can you take them outside (when you are home)? Both Rexy and Rowdy seemed to instinctively know to go potty when their feet hit the grass. And if I had a nickel for every time I've stood in the yard and said "go potty", I'd be rich. Anyway, like I said, I had no luck with the pee pads. We took Rowdy and Rexy out every 1/2 to 1 hour and said "go potty" Rowdy was a bit more difficult, but Rexy has been a breeze. We now have a doggy door and Rowdy goes in and out ALOT and so Rexy goes with him. Rexy has very few accidents in the house - oh don't get me wrong, he has some, but because he has this instinct to go potty in the grass, and because he is in and out so much that he goes outside "most of the time". I understand that some people can't take their dogs outside every hour or so - or that they don't have a doggie door. But it seems to me that both my guys had an instinctive urge to potty in the grass - so that made training them to go outside so much easier than to go on pee pads.

| Hi Welcome to YT. I have two puppies, one 3 months and one 4 months. They each came with a different brands of food. Ollie the older one would not eat anything, I bought Eukanuba, Iams, and Natural choice. Then the vet gave me a sample of Science Diet, she ate that. Then I got Chachi and he came with Royal Canine and Puppy Chow. he was also used to getting 1/4 of a container of Cesars twice a day. So now they get Cesars morning and night and a smorgasboard of dry food all day long. I keep three different kinds out all the time and they eat what they want. The breeder that I got Chachi from has a lot of dogs and they all have different tastes and she said that is the way she does it. It works for us I knows they say Cesars is bad, because it contains by products, but dogs naturally eat animal byproducts. As for the training, I have the same issue, in the kitchen they are pad trained, but not in the living room, so when I allow them in the livng room in the evening, I put a pad down in there and keep a close watch on them. hopefully they will eventually get the idea. |

| Hello and welcome to Yorkie Talk! As far as the food goes, just pick out a high quality food that is in the low to mid 20's as far a protein goes. From what I understand, Yorkies don't need high protein food. They don't tolerate it too well. I have fed Oscar Royal Canin 33 his whole life. He loves it. I have tried to switch to Innova but he did not like it. I think the Chicken Soup for the Soul is good for them too. I have been thinking of getting Oscar some of that and see if he likes it. He gets gas on the Royal Canin...that is the only reason I would switch him. I have also heard that the Ceaser's are not that good for them...but a lot of people feed them and the dogs just love them! Good luck!!!

| Brunos food of choice Hello and welcome here, you will love it. I'm new too. Bruno came home at 7 weeks old and weighed 1.7 lbs. His breeder used Eagle. She also breeds gorgeous Australian Shephards. In 1 month he gained 10 ounces and weighs 2 lbs 5 ounces. This food is very tiny (smaller than peas). The breeders dogs have beautiful coats and seem very happy and healthy so I didn't change his diet. Have fun with your new baby and on this fun site. Kaitlyn Bruno

| I too have used Royal Canin for about 1yr. Buddy got sick and was hospitalized for four days with vomiting and diahreaa, turned out to be a parisite. Vet said he may have picked it up outside. I changed everything when he finally got better and switched to Natural Balance. It is orgainic with organic chicken and vegs and potatoes. I also boil white meat chicken and add 1tsp. of chicken to kibble as well as 1tsp. of peas and carrots or green beans. Found out Yorkies love veggies. I use the frozen kind. He gobbles everything up. Use only natural and organic treats. |

| Hi! Hello! Welcome to YT!! I am fairly new here as well...But I am a YT addict!! I can't get anything done on my computer because all I do is check out YT! I have an almost 4 month old (will be in 3 days) baby boy. We are training him to go outside but he was and still occasionally uses puppy pads. I would suggest, since he is still little and gets the idea of going on the puppy pad when one is close to him, when you let him out of the kitchen area, put a puppy pad in the same room, ie living room, that he is in. Once he gets fairly regular with going to the puppy pad in whatever room he is in, slowly move the puppy pad closer and closer to the room/area that you are eventually going to keep it in all the time. Wish you the best!! And welcome again, to YT!!

| hi and welcome to yt....i use iams puppy because that is what he was on when i brought him home and he refuses to eat anything else so i have stuck with iams and it works for him.....i ask my vet about it and she said when looking for dog food always look at the first ingred. thats what the food is made of mostly and iams is chicken....and like someone else said yeah it has the biproducts in it but dogs naturaly eat biproducts anyway....Bo is 4 months and he is doing well on the pee pads he never misses them to be honest with you...but he was already use to them when i brought him home at 8 weeks so he just went to them basicly on his own i mean yeah he had acidents in the start but i think all dogs do...but now he just goes right to them even if we are in the truck with my husband or at home....good luck with your puppy i am sure you will find what works best for you since it is different with every dog. |
