| Please help!! What should i do... Hi everyone! I am new here, my name is Melissa and i am from Philadelphia. Well, i have been looking for a toy yorkie pup for quite a while now. I can only afford to spend up to $500(including shipping) on a yorkie. I really really want one and everywhere i look they are always over $600 plus S&H Well, i finally found someone from who is selling for $450 "which includes transportation fee, all their registration and health papers and lots of guarantee on their health". When i asked where the puppy would be shipped from he said the pup would be shipped from Cameroon, Africa and it would take less then 16 hours to arrive here in Philadelphia. I don't know what to do, the price is great but i am worried about the pup's health.. 16 hours is a long time! I am also worried about getting ripped off. What should i do! I would appreciate any replies! Here is the ad that i found the puppy from: http://buyit.philly.com/findit/pets/...m?query=yorkie Thanks! -Melissa |

| It's a scam. Stick with local breeders that you can visit.

| I was told that dogs can't even be shipped from camroon. some kind of import restrictions. That if you were traveling with your pet from there that your pet would have to be quaratined when arriving in the states. |

| You might also consider a rescue dog. The adoption fees are much less than that, anywhere from $100-300 usually. Many rescue dogs have special needs or health problems or are traumatized in some way but there are a LOT of very healthy and happy young Yorkies for adoption too. United Yorkie Rescue is where I got Kirby from (he's a Yorkie mix, but most of their rescues are purebreed). They are a GREAT organization and will do their best to match you to the type of dog you want i.e. young, healthy, minimal trauma etc... or if you are willing to adopt a dog with special needs they can help you with that too, either way their goal is to match dogs with owners that want them and will give them the best home. They are a national network and should have many Yorkies in your local area for adoption. See the link in my signature if you are interested. I went the rescue route just becasue I found it hard to purchase from a breeder when there are so many animals out there needing a good home and facing euthanasia if not adopted. Good luck!!

| I just looked at the UYR site and they only have a couple of dogs in PA and they are older dogs but don't let that stop you, fill out an application and tell them what type of dog you want and they will put you on the list. The young and healthy ones go pretty quickly and getting in line is the best way to get one. It only took about 3 weeks for me to get Kirby, he's 7 months old and VERY healthy and happy. He wasn't ever listed on the website, they contacted me as soon as he came into their program, because I had an application on file that stated I preferred a young and healthy dog and would consider a mix. Anyway, I know I'm rambling but I really do feel strongly about UYR, they are great organization and will do their best to help you find the perfect dog for you.
