| [Review] Tails of Devotion Book by Emily Scott Pottruck Tails of Devotion by Emily Scott Pottruck YorkieTalk Book Review We have had the pleasure of reviewing Emily Scott Pottruck's Tails of Devotion pet book. We highly recommend this book to any and all pet owners. The book chronicles animal lovers and tells a small story of 58 San Francisco-area families and their pets. The black and white photography is excellent and each picture captures the joy a pet brings to that person and family. The text is written by the pet owners themselves, so there's ones from cute drawings to heartfelt letters to their pet. Each family has their own special way of expressing how much their pet means in their family. We think this coffee table book will be appreciated by all pet owners. If you have a pet, you will be able to relate to at least several of the stories. There are also some celebrities highlighted in Tails of Devotion, from Robin Williams to Ronnie Lott (former football player) to Stephan Jenkins (from the band Third Eye Blind). While the book itself is well worth the $29.95 price alone, it's great to know that all of the gross proceeds (not just the profits) go towards non-profit organizations, such as PAWS, Pets Unlimited, and Rocket Dog Rescue (where another YorkieTalk member recently rescued a Yorkie from). It's very heartwarming to see an an author giving back to the pet community. One can definitely tell Ms. Pottruck is an animal lover. She found some very inspirational stories to share with her audience, there are stories that range from birds to chickens in addition to cats and dogs. Tails also takes a look at the organizations which the proceeds go to, with information about each organization's mission statement, purpose, and how to donate to them. At the end of the book, there are a few blank pages for you to tell your own story and add your own pictures of your pets, which is very creative and fun, as this enhances the book's experience and gives a person another way to enjoy the book. Of note for Yorkie fans is that there are three stories of families with Yorkies, from the author herself (with Andy and Boomer on p. 124), to notable author Amy Tan (p. 68) , and another family with seven Yorkies (p. 30). It's quite a sight to see the two of them holding seven Yorkies in their arms. Tails of Devotion is a fun, family book that everyone can enjoy. Ms. Pottruck should be commended on her efforts on the book, it is put together with a lot of love for animals. It's also great to see the proceeds going to organizations to help out other animals in need. We love this book and would recommend this to anyone with pets. So far, everyone we have shown this book to have given it a thumbs up and enjoy the stories in the book. We were very happy to do a small bit to help the organizations Ms. Pottruck mentions by purchasing Tails of Devotion, which is available for sale at the website below. We hope the book becomes very popular, as we can't wait to see a sequel with even more heartwarming stories about families and their pets. We are also pleased to note that Ms. Pottruck is also a YorkieTalk member. | I think this looks like a wonderful book - and with the profits going to such wonderful organizations - I think we should all buy a copy. Be sure to visit the official book site -- and especially look at some of the "sample pages." Bravo Emily! Carol Jean |

| I just met her yesterday at a benefit for Rocket Dog Rescue! She also has a book signing this weekend I'll be attending. The book looks great and with 2 lovable yorkies of her own, Emily is definitely a BIG animal lover. It's wonderful to know that every penny paid by us for the book is going to benefiting the animal organizations. She's not even recouping the cost of self-publishing the book. Flipping through the pages, you really sense the care, love, connection people have with their pets. Animals are not just pets, they are part of the family. And being the pet fanatics we all are on YT, it's definitely something we can all relate to! |
