Need advice and tips on how to introduce him to the home and to bunjee, my current puppy. and how to handle them going forward to help make the process of easing him into the family easier. | Very, very carefull! They may fight to see who is the dominant alpha male. I'm not sure, would it be better for you to decide that? Or to let them figure it out on their own? I've heard that once you know which one the dominant one is, to always feed that one first, or give that one the treat first, and so on... But do try to give each equal time. Congrats on Big Bubba! |

| The Dog Whisperer, suggests that you first let them meet on neutal territory. Do not allow them alone together, until you know how they are going to behave. |

| So the funny thing is, they don't fight when I'm not around. Bunjee gets into a jealous frenzy sometimes and barks at Bubba, but only when I'm around. If I'm not present, they get along just fine. I left them alone in the kitchen with a hairline crack to monitor them unseen last night and what did they do. They walked. They sniffed. They ate. They slept. Didn't fight over anything. Right now, they even share the same food bowl without any problems. Bunjee will try to exert dominance over Bubba by barking or humping. Bubba responds by quietly walking away. Bubba will only retaliate with a nip or a quick bark back if Bunjee gets too rough. |

| HunnieBunnie - I'm sure they'll probably do fine. It certainly has always taken a couple weeks for any new pet to find his spot in my house. But, it has never failed to happen and my pets have always become fast friends. Since all dogs are so very different -- I think the first thing you need to do is see how they are going to get along by themselves. You may or may not have any problems from the start. If you have a puppy (like I do) -- you may have to protect the other dog from the puppy's constant chasing, jumping on, and biting. My new little 8-week old Yorkie made my 21-pound, 4-year-old Bichon's life hell from the first day on. He just wouldn't leave the Bichon alone for a minute. So - I had to find times and places where the Bichon could rest and relax and at times just be with me ----without the "monster pup" around. They are great friends now. But, the pup still likes to play much much more than my other dog - and I still help him get a break once in a while. Good luck - hopefully, you'll start out with no real problems. Whether you do or not, these two dogs should become good friends before long. Carol Jean |
